So anyway, it's Fathers day this Sunday and I have been squirrelling money away for a new monitor. So I thought what better way to get a present I want and fast track the purchase than to throw what I have at it and let the Missus and kids throw in the rest. So while I would love to have the cat's arse of monitors it's going to be a compromise I what I have to spend combined with what I can find. The following monitors are within my price range and are availble at stores nearby. AUD$329.00 ChiMei 221D[^] AUD$329.00 Proview FP222AFW[^] (Can't find it on the site) AUD$335.00 BenQ FP222W[^] AUD$335.00 Acer AL2216WD[^] AUD$295.00 V7 L22WD[^] Does anyone own any of these models? What are your thoughts? Even if you don't own one, if you have any knowledge, please have a look at the specs and tell me if there is something else I should be looking for. If you have a completely different make/model you're happy with that has the same screen real estate give me your recommendations. Thanks in advance.

I just recently bought a V7 22" Wide. Have not had it for to long but considering the price i am pretty happy with it. Had to fiddle a bit more than usual with the colorsettings and the pic is a bit strange if a look from the wrong angle. But i only change the colors once and i usually sit in front of it so i do not regret buying it at all. =)

I think you should closely look at the features. ChiMei boast of a good power consumption (if you are live earth guy), but it seems to have only DVI. The Proview is pretty, but you paid the price of high power consumption. When presenting to the old, I think the power consumption counts since you do not want to cause them pain! Best regards, Paul.

I looked at a bunch of different models back in June and decided to spend the extra $100.00 Cdn on the 22" HP w2207 (Hewlett Packard) ...it wound up being about $500.00 with the taxes and all...I totally LOVE my HP monitor...

Thanks for the reply. I'm colourblind so would probably have to have someone change these settings for me.

I'll have a read of a couple of more reviews tomorrow (later today really), the couple I read on Acer were good. Funny thing is many of the monitors seem to use ChiMei panels from many of the things I have read.

It's got Dsub and DVI. I can't find it at the moment but I thought I read yesterday that it had 2 Dsub and 1 DVI. This is the screen I'm leaning towards. It has the low power consumption, many other LCD manufacturers use ChiMei LCD panels and it comes with Bright, Text and Energy Saver modes. I'm just asking in case someone has a major negative for ChiMei or a big positive for one of the others or a different brand I haven't mentioned.

I couldn't really afford it either, but the picture quality was so far past the rest of them for a 22" widescreen that I still feel like I got a good deal. I spend at least 8 hours a day looking at the thing so I need something that won't cross my eyeballs. Maybe it'll be cheaper in Australia :) It was $449.00 Cdn plus tax here (in Canada).

I have dual 22" ChiMei monitors. I honestly believe they offer a terrific performance for the price. The colors are amazing and rival the new high end Dell on my associates machine.

I little late (sorry been driving 800 miles over the last 3 days) but I'd highly recommend a different monitor on personal experience, the ASUS MW221u 22".  I've bought one and it's the best monitor I have ever owned, DVI and D-Sub connectors and speakers built in (very discreet and compact so you can't actually see them).  I bought it for £210 at the time and it was well worth it, very sharp in fact it's best viewed at it's native resolution of 1680x1050. Newegg price[^] US$299

No it's always been September, some weird obscure parts of the world have it in July. But that's cause they can't read a calendar properly.

It going for AUD$379 over here. Just a bit more than I really have, though I will have a look in store today and see if I can talk myself into it.

It will be well worth it, my father is trying to do the same thing.  The only deciding factor at the moment is his old (800MHz) laptop won't support it at it's maximum resolution.  The desktop displays but the monitor overlays an "out of sync" message. I seem to remember someone here discussing it with me and saying that it was one of the better "types" of TFTs because you can view it from any angle but darned if I can remember which one it was
