I meant to post this the other day, but I forgot. On tuesday, two days ago, I sat an exam that is the final (unless I fail :)) exam for my uni course. I will soon have (hopefully) a Bachelor of Software Engineering. The irony is that when I got home from the exam, I continued work on the software product that I began engineering years ago. After 5.5 years of uni (including one year industry placement) I have come to the conclusion that the useful parts of the course (for me anyway) could have been compressed into 1 or 2 semesters, plus the industry placement. However, I am sure nothing like that will ever happen, which is why I am glad I don't have to go back there again :)

No. In hindsight, there was a better, shorter course I could have done (it didnt have as cool a name though: Bachelor of Applied Science (Computer Science and Software Engineering) :)) Once I realised this it was too late to change (the other course is not as prestigious and the admin of the uni didnt want the image of having people drop out of the good oe to go to the bad one) and I beleive the piece of paper will be good for getting a job. I could be wrong, but by the time I worked all of this out, it was too much of a waste to stop.

Congratulations!!! Unfortunely for me I have still two more years left in the "joint". And my conclusion of university is that it employs the dumbest people in computers science field that couldn't get a real job in private sector - because no one in their right mind would hired idiots like that :-D :-D :-D Mike M WinInsider.com

I remember in second year, I had this one good lecturer, and I thought, that would be a cool job. I can lecture people on some of the more interesting, but still not brain taxing aspects of C++, and then spend the rest of the time on "research projects" (ie, mucking around). I can also remember the point where I realised that it doesnt work that way. I think it was about an hour later.

Congratulations David. I spent 6 years of university for my MSc in Physics. Now I am working as a Software Engineer and hardly use anything I learned at the uni. But at least the degree did get me the job. Oliver

Congrats. I, on the other hand, just had my FIRST exam for a degree in Computing and IS. Three year part-time course. Good luck for your future! Drinking In The Sun Forgot Password?
