Lack of motivation and focus is becoming a major obstacle in my interlectual life. I am basicly incapable of spending a full minute reading a book while maintaining fucus. Any tips to help with this issue, would be greatly appreciated.

I found out that when I am not drunk, I manage to read pretty well. Joking apart - the trick is to practice and not to get discouraged. It sounds like you are just out of touch. Or maybe you are too used to reading electronic text and feel unfamiliar with hard-copy books? Jeremy http://www.drinkinginthesun.com "Hey man, Taliban, Tali me Banana."

Yeah, been like that for a few years now. I have a short interest span which is why I have dozens of half finished personal projects. I moved into doing contract work so as to try and keep the variety in my working life. Michael :-) "Eureka" is Greek for "This bath is too hot"

Take a holiday edd, sounds like you could use a long drink and alot less stress. Alice thought that running very fast for a long time would get you to somewhere else. " A very slow kind of country!" said the queen. "Now, here , you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place".

I find that my focus radically improves when I get a bit more exercise in my day, and eat a little better. The first thing I do now when I start feeling mentally sluggish is to examine my lifestyle.

Having just posted and modified a very insensitive comment to Edd (for which I apologie, Sorry Edd) I'm scared to. Lack of motivation and focus could be initiated by the very book you try to read. Try reading "Darwins blade" of Dan Simmons, lots of action, humor and good old fashioned American gun duels. "It could have been worse, it could have been ME!"

Is there something on your conscience that needs to be resolved? This scatter-brained mentality is sometimes your brain's way of hiding from the guilt that would bubble up from deep down inside if you sat still and quietly read a book for a while. There's nothing like a clean conscience to put one's mind at ease. :) Why not throw away a dime? I throw away ten pennies all the time.
