It can be used to hold on to a lit match and allow you to put the match in places your fingers wont go. :)

Only when you don't use a paper clip. :) I love the smell of propane before dinner time. It's the smell of victory. :-D

I just picked up a paper clip from my desk and bent it into a neat little open-sided square. It then occurred to me, that I don't think I've ever used a paper clip for its intended purpose. I've fashioned all sorts of useful things out of paper clips, but never once have I used one to hold pieces of paper together! Here's a few things I've made recently from paper clips. I'm sure there are plenty of other uses... - Tool to eject stuck CD/DVD's from the drive (#1 use, right there!) - Many different forms of hooks, from Xmas tree decorations to cube-wall hooks. - Screw holders for holding small screws in hard-to-reach places. Once the thread has started to bite, you can simply unhook the paperclip. - temperature probe holder - modern art

In Norway they are very proud of having invented the Paperclip. If I remember rightly there's even a Paperclip museum somewhere but we never found it.:)

Nothing is exactly what it seems but everything with seems can be unpicked.

I've heard that you can hold extremely short hand-rolled "cigarettes" with such a device too. Not that I've done that, I'm just sayin', you know. I read it on the internet or something, right?

Using round end to de-wax an ear. Straightened and used as toothpick. Nail Cleanser. Used as temporary fix for broken Zip Fly! Magnet adornment. Big one as key ring. Any other uses people?

I remember reading some pseudo-serious research somewhere (by an office supplies company, I think) that concluded that only about 1% of paper clips are ever used for clipping paper. I think I could have told them that (and used the research money for something useful).

Ask the next Norwegian you come accross, they have absolutely no doubt. As for the story of the invention itself I never made it to Paperclip museum so I couldn't say.

Nothing is exactly what it seems but everything with seems can be unpicked.
