Sorry for the deluge of posts :-O but I found this rather interesting. And Paul, No, I'm not an Apple basher. The role of the industry's biggest bully is increasingly played by Apple, not Microsoft[^] 'Night, all. :)

I have always said, I do mean always, that if Apple had won the PC war back in the 80's that they would have been a far more evil company than Microsoft ever was. Luckily, the very things that made them scary made it impossible to compete with IBM clones. Still, I love my iPod. :)

Imagine if IBM had managed to prevent the PC being cloned at all....we'd all be working on enourmous buff coloured machines that cost $5000 :sigh:

It is all true. Do I care? No. I get my job done better each day. Better than I ever did with Windows and PC. I've learnt technology isn't the point. It is what I do with it, how it helps me do things. For me, Apple produce better tools. Simple. Life is better. And as the journalist says the industry will error check any company that grows too big for its boots. Apple, Google, Microsoft, IBM etc. Couple last points: Apple doesn't screw with the web. Microsoft did. Only my iTunes music collection is locked to Apple. All my other data is free, free, free. And if push comes to shove my iTunes music can be converted to MP3. Not too mention they are encouraging DRM free music (for purely profit reasons, they know DRM-free music will make them more money, not less.) Unlike Microsoft who fight for DRM. Apple is consumer focused. They fight the corporates to bring the best experience to users. Microsoft sucked up to every corp. they could at the expense of users. Apple only do it because it is a profitable path to take. I'm not stupid. Apple isn't stupid. I want good tools, they want good profits. Amazingly, the two align. I keep buying Apple because they keep making for me.

If you read the whole article you'll see that isn't what the journalist was saying. His ending surprised me :)

Internet Explorer. Continued medling through proprietary features. Safari, while not perfect, is a good browser. It doesn't interfere, just does its job.
