VMWare, anybody used it?

VMWare is an amazing product. I've used it a lot. My only problem with it is that, as one might expect, you need a pretty hot machine to run it efficiently. Whatever...

I'm running off a 310 MB with Pentium II/400 MHz using Win2k and works quite well. I've got Windows 98 running, and I don't have a separate partition at all. Same with linux SuSE. All running on the same hard disk, with only one partiton! How cool is that. Very impressive! Venet. -------- Black holes are where God divided by zero.(Steven Wright)

Yes, the only problem I saw was a software that we developed, made with a 3rd party-lib using serial ports for hardware control that fails without a reason in VMWare. I still don't know if it's this lib problem or VMWare's problem, after all, in "normal" machines it does not fail... But VMWare rocks! Crivo Automated Credit Assessment

I'm not saying that it won't run on a lower end machine, but when I've done that it seems to be very sluggish. Like any other application, the more power you can put behind it, the better it works. "Humans: The final chapter in the evolution of rats"

I'm thinking of upgrading to high-spec machine, just to be able to run more Virtual Machines. That kinda makes sense, as you can have networking within virtual machines and to a high extent they can be considered like physical machines. So no need for any additional hardware. :) Venet. -------- Black holes are where God divided by zero.(Steven Wright)
