Male hair length

I've been growing my hair all summer and am trying to decide whether to cut it short again or not. Most men around here on the west coast of Canada have short hair if they are under 30 but it seems to be progressively longer by age until the 60-ish and older at which point it seems short hair is the fashion. My theory is that this correlates with what was popular in the high school of their day. I'm 39 and long hair was definitely "in" when I was in high school amongst my clique (headbangers). I've also noticed that the more overweight men on average seem to have longer hair than the skinnier men. I'm curious what the pattern is around the world that you've seen and what your hair length is and is it a choice or default.

I am 30 years old and have had really short hair for the last 7 years, but I am just finally growing it out. If you are 39 and have a full of head of hair, don't cut it too short. If you got it, flaunt it. Also, I tend to agree about fat people having long hair. The funny thing is that it just makes them look even more sloppy. So if you have a weight problem, or if you have some balding, cut it short. If you are fit and have a full head of hair, grow it out a bit. But do NOT grow a mullet, or a pony tail. That is definately not cool.

Yup, I'm like a werewolf on my head, no where else though thankfully. Maybe I'll let it grow for a while, see where it takes me. I find that fat men with very short hair tend to look fatter. The longer hair seems to make their faces look less fat. I guess it depends if they style it or not though.

I'm a couple of years old than you and shoulder length was in (back in The Day). Here in the US, though, short is very in. So is bald. If it's long, you're considered trailer trash that still listens to Southern rock (aka Mullet Heads). I, unfortunately, went with the bald look after trying for the first time to give myself a trim using electric clippers. A bad "oh sh*t" moment. But a month worth of stubble later, I look pretty damn hip! Bald didn't work out to well since it's summer here. Tanned face and baby's butt white head just don't go well. I was in seclusion for a bit. Take your cue from women, though. If they're slightly overweight, short hair makes them look, well, fat(er). Overweight women with long hair look slimmer (well, to a certain extent). Unless they're clueless, most women know what looks best. I think the same applies to men.

I am trying to grow my hair long for the first time in my life. Well, I'm letting the top grow to start with - it is currently very floppy in a Hugh Grant sort of way. I've always had it short - since before I can remember. It is actually at the point where it is getting in my eyes, which is weird. The wife likes it though, and she's the boss! Most of my close friends are balding, so they probably think I'm growing it to spite them. he he.

I have short hair because it is so much easier to handle. No brushing or blow-drying is necessary.

I buzz it to about 1/8-th inch every two weeks. My hair is very thin on top, and I've got a substantial bald spot. My philosophy: "If you haven't got it, flaunt it."

Reminds me of a Visual Studio T-Shirt that I have that reads: Do More with Less. I will never wear that shirt; I kept it, because it is the ONLY Microsoft T-Shirt that I own, and I was given this one for Free, and let's face-it, no one in their right mind would actually buy a shirt with that statement on it...

I'm into my 50's and up until I turned 50, I had pretty long hair with a pony tail and a lot of facial hair (think ZZ Top). But about 3 years ago, I had my daughters cut off my beard, pony tail and shave my head to within about 1/4 inch. Everybody said that I looked like I lost 20 years, so I've stayed this way ever since. The biggest plus for me though is that I now get an extra 5 minutes in the morning 'cause I don't have a lot of hair to brush and dry. On the other hand, while I don't have to shave everyday, I still forget sometimes to shave and it isn't until a couple of days of stubble show up and I have a :doh: moment that I remember that I have to shave. :) Incidently, my profile pic[^] is pre-makeover. :)

No wonder I cut my hair! I had to stay in fashion! ;P I cut about 2/3 of a meter, about two foot plus off my hair. :) I have short, but no buzz cuts.

We build high-speed ink jet printing systems, and we were developing a new four inch wide printhead. Some idiot decided it would be cool to get everyone a T-shirt that said: 4 Inch Team on the front. Needless to say, the guys in the group weren't impressed.

Some idiot decided it would be cool to get everyone a T-shirt that said: 4 Inch Team on the front. Needless to say, the guys in the group weren't impressed.

I'm 39 as well...I've had my hair cut short (1/4 inch all over) since I was about 35 - I prefer it that way. I tried growing it long when I was younger - but it grew out, not down - natural afro!

Back home (MN/WI): shaggy for kids, generally shorter as age increases. Here (Pueblo): short-almost-skin for kids, shaggy for old folk and soccer players.
