I've recently put myself in a position where a second job would be helpful. I'm having a tough time finding a good idea for a second job. Here's what I'm looking for: 1) Would like to make $1500/mth. 2) Would prefer to keep it under 25hrs/wk. 3) I want to be able to leave that job and come to my primary or vice versus, or work from home. 4) My primary job requires some travel on occasion. Usually just for a day or two once a month, although it can be up to two weeks if I'm going overseas, so this job will need to allow me to do that without getting fired. Any ideas?

When you find such a job, let me know as it would come in very handy here!

That sounds low. I charge ZAR300/h (+-$42) for my part time work. Very often it's only a few hours at a time, e.g. client requests a small application, I do about 6 or 7 hours prototyping, an return to the client for evaluation. He then comes back weeks later with another few hours work. If the job guarantees say 10 hours a week or more, I'm willing to go down to ZAR200/h ($29).

I do not believe they are right who say that the defects of famous men should be ignored. I think it is better that we should know them. Then, though we are conscious of having faults as glaring as theirs, we can believe that that is no hindrance to our achieving also something of their virtues. - W. Somerset Maugham My New Blog

THe OP wanted $1500/mo and 25hrs/week. I divided $1500 by 100hrs/mo. He is ofc to decide like you (and I) that $15/hr is underpricing himself, charge more, and either work fewer hours or earn more like $2500/mo.

You should consider writing add-on's utilities or offering custom work from some of the great software companies that have a free developers api, free promotion for 3rd parties who want to make add-on software and sell it themsevles or offer training, customization, installation or other services and charge for it themselves. There are lot's of companies looking for smart knowledgeable people who want to do this in their own area pretty much any where in the world, charge whatever they want, no contracts, no hassles, just extra income doing whatever they like to do. Sadly there is a particular software company that offers all this but is precluded by Chris from clearly stating that fact here to the benefit of his own loyal CodeProject members who want to make some extra money on the side because it's considered "advertising" despite the fact that said company makes no money from their API program whatsoever, only wants to create a classic "win-win-win" for all parties involved and said companies most brilliant employee has been bringing inestimable value to this site since near inception of Codeproject.com.

from what I hear, the women are a lot more giving in money than men are. Sure the female could do more shows in a week, but a guy with a good build could make the same in one night in the right city... but there are better ways to earn money.

Any ideas?
