Subversion and network shares

Again on Subversion... Does anyone know if there are known problems running SVNServe against a repository that resides on a Windows share? I couldn't find any specific information, so I tried and it works fine. Any additional info?
If you truly believe you need to pick a mobile phone that "says something" about your personality, don't bother. You don't have a personality. A mental illness, maybe - but not a personality. - Charlie Brooker My Blog - My Photos - ScrewTurn Wiki

It depends on the type of repository: an FSFS (FileSystem on FileSystem) repo will work via a network share. A BerkleyDB repo will give you problems. See also the great SVN-book: Repository Data-Store Comparison[^]

Thanks for the link Bert. :)

I almost did this, then decided to run the server "svnserve" instead and it was dead easy to setup as a service and allowed me to sync a copy of all commits to our remote server which I have to say is super cool to know that seconds after I've committed an exact duplicate has been created over 2000 kilometers away.

For the most part, while it was fun, I'd have to say no. :) I'm grateful that you mentioned a useful and practical point about svnsync and I'm glad that other gentleman who had a very relevant to me and practical point about releases and maintenance which convinced me it might be a good idea after all. Now we use it and it rocks my socks. I just needed to see something more practical before I could see how it would be useful here in our shop. The rest was like that voice of the teacher in Charlie Brown cartoons because very little of it was more than "I use it all the time I don't know how I could live without it" or "you suck for thinking that" etc. I know I was asking for it with my replies but still... ;) I'm *still* getting emails every day from those threads along the lines of "you're crazy if you don't use it".

No, you misunderstand. What I mean is that I was being provoking by my replies intentionally which is what I meant by "asking for it" not that I was wrong, because at the time I was not wrong only ignorant and I'm never embarrased to be ignorant. :)
