I just read a piece about giving Britain a National Motto, akin to the US with In God We Trust. I thought of a few (tongue in cheek, of course). We apologise for the inconvenience. Non Bibendi Sufficium. (There is not enough Drink). With Pride, With History, With Chips. At Least We aint France/Germany/US(delete as appropriate). Any other Suggestion? Or Suggestions for Other Countries?

I actually quite liked the phrase London commuters wore after the 7/7 attacks: We are not afraid! Which could also be expressed as: Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough I think the Scottish motto sums up perfectly the reaction to the Glasgow Airport attacks: Nemo me impune lacessit / No one provokes me with impunity Also can be expressed as: If you attack us, expect to be kicked in the balls by a passer by.

Great Britain (historic): "The sun never sets in the British empire" Actually this is still true! Although our Empire now consists of a couple of Islands in the South Pacific, The Falklands, Gibralter and a whack of Antarctica, merely by geographical accident, it is always daytime somewhere!

Thats where I read it, but none of mine are on there! (although the with chips is close!) I did state that I had read the Piece, however, I agree, do we actually need one, or is it just Spin to stop us thinking about how crap the country has become?

Why on earth does the UK need a motto? Will it make the slightest difference? They'll be redesigning the flag next to make it more 'appealing' but for what its worth here's mine anyway:- 'Britain, the country formerly known as Great'

                      Apathy Rules - I suppose...
