A colleague just passed me this link: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/27/opinion/27havel.html?_r=1&th&emc=th&oref=slogin[^] I thought that it was one of the best essays I've ever read on the subject. I (personally) think that programmers have a special responsibility as we're smart (right?) and we tend to be relatively wealthy (I said "relatively!")

I was driving through town a few days ago following a not too old Toyota. It had badly damaged piston rings and oily smoke was spewing out of the back of it. It stank, it clouded up the atmosphere all around the car when it was idling at the lights and streamed back behind it moving. It's obviously been smoking for a long time, it had smoke stains on the bumper. Climate change or not, I can't imagine people who would not feel some sort of guilt. Do what you want but don't harm others. PS: 5 for your sig. :)

Marc, I thought that was called democracy? .... "Hey! Don't rob that Granny!" .... "You're curtailing my freedoms, dude!" So you think that it's OK to run a vehicle that spews out hydrocarbons. It happens to be againt the law on most of the planet. Did you even read the original article?

Hey Phil, come to the Soapbox! There's a big party going on about Global Warming there. I mean, a party in the Soapbox style: everyone trolling and insulting each other.

I completely disagree but this is soapbox material so my discussion ends at that.

I think you missed the point. I wasn't criticizing John for being upset at the guy's oil tailpipe, I was making a comment that nowadays it seems all you have to do is breath and someone gets offended. Marc
