Yeah, we have two safes but they're just such a pain to open. :)

Yeah. Fortunately. Basically I'm out the $500 deductible but should be compensated in all new electronics. It's actually not that bad a deal when all is said and done. Insurance turns out to be a good thing every once in a while.

With the current exchange rate, isn't that about US$8,000? :)

Although to me it might be worth much more. You see, I have replacement insurance which means that the insurance company has to replace the stolen item with a new "comparable" item. Do they still sell the old XBox new? If not, I might be able to get a brand new XBox 360.

what? are they supposed to bring an appraiser with them?

Well they took a cell phone nearby. Tim Craig will be happy to know that they also left behind my wife's Christian Dior handbag. Morons.

I got robbed. :( Some dirty leftist hippies snuck into by back door and took about $7,000 in electronics and cash while I and (fortunately) my wife were out. How do I know they were "dirty leftist hippies", you ask? Because while they stopped to swipe a 5-year old XBox, they passed on fairly expensive watches, jewelry, financial statements and check books sitting in plain view. They also broke a high definition projector by ripping it from its mount instead of gently unscrewing it. Only dirty, leftist hippies could be that stupid.

Sorry to hear that. Same thing happened to a friend just this week, and CP's Lauren was robbed at gun point as well.

No No No. It has got to be those dastardly agents from Redmond - they want you to stop playing make-belief tennis and play their new halo 3 on a new xbox 360 :-D

lower deductibles cost more in payments. I'm not sure what the numbers on my renters insurance are, but going from a $100/250 to a 250/1000 deductible on my car is saving me ~$500/year. Having to pay the extra $750 if I wreck would suck but I'm not that bad a driver.

Come on, Red, where's your personal responsibility? I hope you're not going to allow the insurance company to pay for it, meaning the policyholders are subsidizing your lack of basic security. Here are some other entertaining observations: -You moved to the 'burbs to escape crime, yet you have been victimized and I have not. Ironic, don'cha think? -Typical of a victim of property crime, you are trying to insult those that took advantage of you by critiquing their choices in stolen items, technique, etc. This is typical victim mentality, trying to find some superiority for yourself in a situation where you have clearly been treated as inferior. -Good luck getting your precious police force to track down the stolen property or make any leads on the case! -Perhaps if you had focused more of your time and energy on people (yourself, your fellow citizens, your family) instead of property, you couldn't have had so much taken away from you so easily. Have a great night's sleep!

I voluntarily pay the insurance company handsomely to mitigate my risk such that if an event like this occurs, the cost of that risk is distributed accross policy holders. That is a prudent and age-old concept of which I approve of greatly and I challenge you to find a statement where I say otherwise. Anybody who does not have adaquete insurance or who is not otherwise self-insured is, quite frankly, a fool.

No I didn't. I live in an urban area, genius.

Or rather a typical mentality of somebody who has been so thoroughly lashed to reach for some reason to find me inferior to you. Yes, I was quite astonished at the stupidity of their choices and mentioned it to the cop. He agreed that those types of people tend to be "idiots". Say, are you a burgler?

Since I am prudently insured, there is no need to and that does not offend my sensibilities in the least. But just for fun, I'm going to request a tape from our gate's security camera to see if I can find a suspicious license plate or two. I'll be sure to pay special attention to ratty cars with anti-Bush bumper stickers.

At the time, I thought it was kids because they walked by some high dollar stuff to take a few not so valuable things. They also took a 1/3 full 5 gallon glass jar of pennies, which to me wouldn't offer a large enough return for the effort required to take it. We called the cops, who seemed indifferent to our plight. It did freak my wife out, which I think hastened our move to the country side.

The wife is a bit freaked and neither of us slept well last night. But instad of moving, I'm thinking we'll install laser beams.

I got robbed. :( Some dirty leftist hippies snuck into by back door and took about $7,000 in electronics and cash while I and (fortunately) my wife were out. Well, I don't know why you got voted down for this. It's a pretty crappy thing to have happened. Worse still, they could have entered with guns while you were in the house. As for the hippy part - isn't it the time of year that the Republican party collects their annual fees? ;P They left your computer I take it?
