Deep down inside I already knew the answer. It's a clue! You need to look for thieves who were/are Dell owners! Having taken two desktop computers, they obviously had a vehicle and some time on their hands to go back and forth from your house. Your neighbours didn't see anything?

Well...The thing is, I have a deck that backs up onto a wooded area that is several acres in size with a pond adjacent. They took some rather bulky stuff, but left behind a couple of larger items like a Printer/Copier (which they set down near their exit). They climbed my deck, entered through the rear door, had their fun and then (I believe) exited through the back again. I think the front door was locked, and they had piled stuff near the back, so I think they escaped through the rear woods and then hopped the fence. Most of my neighbors are at work during the day, but I've only had a chance to ask one and he didn't see anything. Aside from a car that was stolen 4 years ago, this is apparently the only incident of reported crime in the neighborhood in the roughly 6 years I've lived there. I think they targetted my place because it is kind of nestled in trees, which offer good cover.

I've heard about robbers letting pit bulls into houses with dogs to kill the dog before going in to rob the house. So not only is your stuff stolen, you have to clean up the bloody remains of the family dog.

At least you won't have to worry about identity fraud. But you should have them hidden (locked) away as they are potentially more lucrative to a criminal than your household goods.

Come on, Red, where's your personal responsibility? I hope you're not going to allow the insurance company to pay for it, meaning the policyholders are subsidizing your lack of basic security.
I voluntarily pay the insurance company handsomely to mitigate my risk such that if an event like this occurs, the cost of that risk is distributed accross policy holders. That is a prudent and age-old concept of which I approve of greatly and I challenge you to find a statement where I say otherwise. Anybody who does not have adaquete insurance or who is not otherwise self-insured is, quite frankly, a fool.

Since I am prudently insured, there is no need to and that does not offend my sensibilities in the least. Who cares if there's a criminal out there? As long as you get your money! Forget about who else may be victimized or hurt by a burgular, as long as you get your check, right?

How is risk redistribution equivalent to wealth redistribution? Since when did socialists advocate risk redistribution? In your unmitigated zeal to attack him, you only managed to spout off nonsense. The rest of your rant is rather uninteresting and is just a personal attack on Red. Replace the scenario of getting robbed with getting in a car accident (oh yeah, I'm a real idiot for getting hit head on by a drunk driver!) and you'll see how silly you're being.

That's because you're an idiot. Socialism is a government-sponsored compulsory "social" service, whereas insurance is a private risk-mitigation via distribution tool. Medicare is a socialist insurance program. Insurance is not socialist.

IamChrisMcCall wrote:

Actually, no I wasn't because, as I said, I have insurance because I'm not a fool. I was upset that somebody entered my house and, had my wife been home at the time, a much more vial crime than theft could have ensued. Of course you are a vial person (something entirely predictable, since you're a leftist) and would probably want something vial to happen to others. You are a disgusting person.

I would have absolutely no problem with my wife placing a bullet square between the eyes of an intruder if I weren't there. My only regret would be the mess I'd have to clean up.

No you're not. You can't make two consecutive posts relishing in the fact that the only reason my wife was not assaulted or worse was that she was not home at the time. You can't call people who were robbed "idiots" because someone robbed them and then

Yeah, I realized after I sent the reply that I had typed pit bull. I think the article I read specifically mentioned the breed of the dogs, but that really isn't important. I had a pit bull for a pet growing up and they are great dogs. What is more common is people that get "guard" dogs keeping them alone outside and then deprive them of pack contact turning them into an animal that is more likely to bite.
