Developers on MySpace

I've avoided MySpace for lots of reasons, mostly because I assume from the content I have seen that it's just a toy to keep 13 year old girls busy. But I'm starting to wonder if their demographic is more than I imagine. I'm just curious to know how many CP regulars ever wind up at MySpace. I can't imagine too many professionals hitting MySpace, but with it's huge traffic I can't help but think that having a page there could help bring traffic to my sites. Though I also have to wonder what somebody would think about a company they found through MySpace. Personally, I'd be a bit sceptical of a software company I found through a MySpace page, but maybe I'm off base here. I haven't spent enough time there to guess what others perseptions on it are. Any thoughts?

Like ever other musician I know (and don't know), I have a page there. It's the goto contact place for musicians. I take a peek for messages every few days, check out friends' new music, check for bulletins about upcoming shows...that's about it. Mark

I almost joined MySpace team but there was a lot of resistence from the family due to their recent controversies. But I've never used MySpace (nor have profile) and that was the first thing I told the mgr. -- he said, "ditto". Use MySpace only for testing for the new features they've created :).

You can create a myspace page and skip all the fancy graphics and friend links. Just throw up a resume and a picture (assuming you don't look like a serial killer). However, I would prefer to use a blog, online resume and list of codeproject articles to promote oneself instead of a myspace page.

Well that's out... I had heard a story about some high school chick that did cheezy little graphics for MySpace pages, that's now a multi-millionaire. Just trying to thing of a way to capitalize on their traffic. But then again, my site is specificly for a developer audience, so I assume most MySpace traffic would do me no good anyway.

oh, you want to know where to place ads... Well, I'm no expert on that. I'd say hang out on an extremely popular forum site that has to do with your product. For example, I love pianoworld.com and get traffic whenever someone asks about free midi sequencers. Wait till someone asks a question that your product answers. Then you're not spamming. myspace is definitely for 13 yr old girls. and mayyybe for musicians (that don't know how / can't afford to make their own website)... And since my daughter is 16, well, i block myspace with a vengeance. Although it won't, I sure wish myspace would go away. I see nothing good in it - only evil. My daughter has always been a pretty heavy duty "whiner". But, MAN has she learned a LOT more about it from that site. Now, she can whine with the BEST of em. And we're not talkin bout a few sentences. We're talking about whining as a "way of life". Can you tell i really really hate myspace? (you see how infectious whining is? I'm whining about my daughter whining - sorry) ...Steve

You mean like... CodeProject for example? ;P Yeah, just always looking for more cheap or free ways to draw some traffic. I know the feeling. It kind of disturbs me that we make such advances in technology, and the best thing the majority of people do with it is crap like MySpace.

Yeah, I suppose I need to update that. I just don't have an easily accessible picture of myself that I like. My CP one is a few years and pounds out of date. Plus the whole thing just seems silly to me. I think CP articles and a personal blog is better then a simple page like this, but I haven't done either for years and my blog has been down for the last month.
