Virtual desktop with actual different desktop icons???
-
I found one such product, that creates virtual desktops where I can actually have different icons on each desktop. I won't tell you which until later. Any recommendations for such a beast? That's *cough* compatible with Vista? Marc

Actually, I miss the Windows 3.1 manager thing.
ProgMan.exe actually was still with us as late as XP SP1 (something in SP2 seems to have disabled it) I don't know if it works in vista, but you could try running progman.exe to see what happens... [edit] Info about getting progman working again[^] [/edit] If you're just trying to organise lots of shortcuts, I'd highly recommend FreeLaunchBar[^] - it turns folders in your quicklaunch into popup menus - effectively giving you lots of task based Start menus

DeskSpace looks good (as good as Ubuntu's), but unfortunately not free :(

Marc, if you like the Vista sidebar, you might like to have a look at this freeware desktop sidebar. It really is quite good and not too heavy on resources. http://www.desktopsidebar.com/[^]

Nice post. This greatly appeals to me and what I'd like to do to be more efficient. I'm posting to subscribe to this thread but would also love it if you'd shoot me an email if you find something really cool. I'll do the same for you. An outstanding idea and I'm not sure why I had not considered it sooner. I'm just not as smart as you I guess.:-D
