Chances are high that you will see some children going home (or leaving home) so you know where they live. In what sense is that a danger for them ? And if the child gives his phone number to somebody, he could as well have given his address. So, I really don't seee where is the problem here...

If you are referring to shaded windows, yes, the paranoia goes that far. Although there is decent enough reason for getting darkened windows in the desert, that is rarely the reason, most people don't want others looking in. You don't open the door to strangers, you don't leave the garage without first locking the car. You don't take the kids to the park unless you can be with them every second, or you just stop taking them places in public in some cases. In some areas, you don't go at all unless you have a conceal/carry license (packing a gun), in which case, I don't go there.

Not sure what the folks at Google were thinking...maybe they left their brain at home the day they implemented this solution/feature. What am I blathering about? Read the email I got from a friend today: Dear family and friends, I am forwarding this email to all my friends and family. You might want to remove your name and address from this GOOGLE service. If this is a duplicate message, please ignore it. Google has implemented a new feature which enables you to type a telephone number into the search bar, then hit enter and you will be given the person's name and address. If you then hit MapQuest, you will get a map to the person's house. Everyone should be aware of this! It's a nationwide reverse telephone book. If a child gives out his/her phone number, someone can now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious, and alarming. Note that you can have your phone number removed or blocked. I tried my number and it came up along with the mapquest and directions straight to my house. I did fill out the removal form for myself, and encourage you to do the same. Kinda scary, especially for children or single women. Please look up your own number. In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to: Google ( http://www.google.com/ ). Type your phone number in the search bar (i.e. 555-555-1212) and hit enter. If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information, simply click on your telephone number and then click on the Removal Form. Removal takes 48-hours. Although this may not apply to you, if you have an unlisted number or a cell phone as a primary contact, you may know someone who needs to know this information. It's not a matter of being "allowed" or "not allowed". I simply pointed out that Google is not alone and singling them out was disingenuous. Anyone concerned enough to want to block their number on Google would also want to know that dozens of other sites and methods exist to glean the same information - don't you think?
