I guess Apples ages old technique of giving them away to elementary schools is starting to pay dividends.

I have two brothers-in-law that fix Macs for a living (I send them sympathy cards). I'd think they'd both freak at that picture - fixing a Mac is not the easiest task in the universe and especially not the Laptops. But a Mac user squeals insistently "Macs are so reliable - they hardly ever break down!!!". Tell that to my in-laws. A Mac is about as likely as a PC to develop a fault (more for some models, less for others), but of course Mac users don't appreciate that because they pretty much have to take them back to the shop for any kind of repair (servicing Macs [pun intended] is damn sight better money than fixing PCs). One, because they are hard to fix anyway, and two because if your a Mac user you're already impaired as it is. Most of these Journo students probably bought a Mac laptop because they already had an iPod and wanted the associated fashion accessory - "It can even be used as a computer!" said the salesman. "It's a Mac!" he said proudly, and unwittingly* sealed his fate... * In this case "unwittingly" is less than a "half-wit" and somewhere around a "f***-wit".

I can scrawl far faster than I could type, I'd never try to take notes on a laptop. And you can scribble on paper far easier than on a PC.

Happy MacBook Pro user here, not a secretive one at all. Even got an iPhone. And a 2nd generation iPod nano (not those awful looking new ones.) And buying iMacs for the office. And a few iTouch* devices. Its a great cult :-D * Is the plurarl of that iTouches? Sounds dirty.

I almost believed you until you said you hadn't upgraded to the latest iPod Nano needlessly, regardless of any lack of improvements or worse design! :) If it is true.... then have a virtual slap from me for buying the iPhone too! lol *slap*

most schools provide laptops to students, or suggest an appropriate laptop to purchase your first year of school. then again, it could be a scrap booking class...

My thought exactly. I'm a fairly fast typist, and can free-hand sketch pretty well with either Visio or even Paint. I still can't imagine taking lecture notes on a laptop fast enough to keep up. I could see myself going back and reworking lecture notes on the computer, however. Back when I was in school I would recopy lecture notes and clean up diagrams when I had time. It was a simple method of studying and reinforcing what was covered in class.

a close up shows maybe ONE that may have been different from the others. It looked like a "where's waldo" meets "the stepford children". I'm going to have nightmares.:((
