How to Win Friends and Influence People[^] The title makes it sound a little sinister, but this classic text really can help with effective communication and relationship management.

Put a bell on the lead sheep so you can tell it apart from the rest. All that is left is finding a good try to nap under so you can stay awake at night and shoo the wolves.

No matter what approach you use, in the end it all comes down to dealing with individual people, each of whom is an illogical, quirky and emotional human being with a personal agenda to promote. You might find a couple of useful tidbits in the Cubicle City[^] column that I wrote a while back.

I have no people skills, but Rapid Development is a good book for the other question.

Christian Graus - Microsoft MVP - C++ "I am working on a project that will convert a FORTRAN code to corresponding C++ code.I am not aware of FORTRAN syntax" ( spotted in the C++/CLI forum )

The logical conclusion being that if you added people skills to your bag of tricks, you'd probably end up ruling the world. Or at least the small chunk of turf where you work. :)
