Mr Morden wrote: I'm sitting here wondering if there is more sports related violence around the world than religious related violence Oh yes, don't you remember the football crusades, the jihad declared by Manchester United and the death sentence ordered on Kevin Keegan for writing the book 'Fooball, it's a funny old game" :-D Michael :-) "Eureka" is Greek for "This bath is too hot"

Don't forget the Palestinian team running onto the field, standing next to the opposing team and blowing themselves up. X| "Until you spoke, and showed me understanding is a dream"

I reckon sports takes the number one position in that regard. Take away one religion and folks will just make a religion out of something else. People just seem to yearn to have something to believe in and be part of that is bigger and more meaningful than their individual lives are or can ever be. Perhaps we should be trying to show people that their life, in and of itself, is an amazing thing and it deserves more appreciation that it often receives. It doesn't require something like religion or sports to make it trascendental. "Until you spoke, and showed me understanding is a dream"

Last night Korea beat Italy in the soccer. This morning there were reports of rioting in Melbourne. I was listening to a radio report on the way in to work this morning interviewing the italian fans after the match. What incredibly racist comments! I'm sitting here wondering if there is more sports related violence around the world than religious related violence. I know a number of posters have, from time to time, expressed their opinions that religion is responsible for many of the worlds ills. I reckon sports takes the number one position in that regard. ;)

Mr Morden wrote: The reason international sports should be banned! Can't disagree more mate! Sport is a past time, one that many of us have a great passion for. The majority of football fans are not thugs, racists or twats, and there is no way that we should allow a small group of prats to spoil it for the rest of us. Sport is not the reason of the spreading violence, it is its expression. Ban sport and people will find another way to express their anger. Y'a cool jouer avec Maradona qui fait tourner gratos dans les vestiaires - Merci Maradona ! - Y'a pas d'quoi ! Ludwig Von 88, "Goal Di Pele"

Sport is for doing , entertainment is for watching . These guys might as well riot over the plot of a soap opera , after all that is just entertainment also ! I have a friend in the police force who told me there were 50 street fights in our town after the England - Denmark game, and England WON. What would have happened if they had lost?! Systems AXIS Ltd - Software for Business ...

I don't see why this is a reason to ban international sports... At the risk of sounding preachy, I believe that both religious violence and sports-related violence, and any other cause of violence are all results of humanity struggling to find meaning to a universe that lacks God. What I mean is, if God was really in their life there would be no violence. Without God the best purpose they can come up with is rioting because some team lost a stupid game, or blowing themselves up because some religious leader said they would gain a better place in heaven. Just my opinion. :) Why not throw away a dime? I throw away ten pennies all the time.
