I have a suggestion for Chris Maunder which will not only generate revenue but also earn respect and lots of hits for the site. This suggestion is that i want the site owner to expose more OPEN SOURCE / LINUX content on Codeproject. This will draw more visitors from the OPEN SOURCE community. I hope Chris Maunder takes this suggestion.;)

Noooooooo!!!! The last thing I want to see more of is more GPL'd code, as that makes any code completely worthless. Since GPL is like a viral infection (one line and your code is now infected and becomes gpl), it's the worst thing to have around for app development. ^_^ Seriously tho', one of the best things about the MFC community is that a LOT of us are professionals, doing commercial code. We're not consultants, we create products. Code at CodeGuru and now here at Code Project is far more 'free' as far as I'm concerned, as it's usable for anything. I love the 'Here's some code, have fun' attitude of authors. "open source" != Linux if you have "open source" code an you want to post it here, then post it. i don't see anything here that prohibits such code.

Right on, Chris. I'm SO sick of hearing Gnazi's like this fellow go on and on about open source like it's the sole domain of Gnu/Linux. People have been releasing source code for public consumption since long before that insipid buzzword (or Linux) came along.

Essentially you are asking for a Linux section on the site. Yes, we could do it, but would it be welcome? What sorts of articles would people be willing to submit and what would they want to read? There is certainly no way I could even think of doing this until we get the site a little faster. Think of the flame wars bogging down the forum scripts :) Oh the humanity! cheers, Chris Maunder

...and what would be the point? There are already other Linux-only source code sites out there. SourceForge, which tries to not be just linux-only, is dominated by linux code (which is fine and dandy). Windows and COM stuff, which Code Project and Code Guru cover nicely, doesn't need dilluted so much. There is already an issue with the Java and C# stuff, let's not make it worse. (still using Anon since my filter proxy kills cookies and scripts)

Sure, it may be nice to have a Linux section on this website, but then again it would be nice to have sections on: VB QuickBASIC Fortran Pascal ..... BeOS Mac Programming ..... You get my point, no? I think this site should remain a mainly 'Windows content' site, mainly because there are very few others of any quality, whereas Linux users have tons of sites to go looking for code and articles. Make this site cover too much and it will fail from having too wide an audience (i.e. it will inevitably make it harded to find what you want). And also, if Linux users start visiting this site and submitting articles, the Unedited Articles list will be filled with no end of 'I love Linux' and 'asdf' entries... ;P. Well said, I have to eat, I'm not a student , I don't work for some Big Corp, To eat I must sell my code in the form of Apps or components, And Gee I give away a fair bit of code here and other places. To be honest Chris, I was one of those people who voted "No" in the VB poll last month on this site, but I have to say, I'd prefer a VB section to a Linux section. There are plenty of great sites dedicated to Linux programming out there - I don't think there's any point in muddying the water here - apart from Perl and Java, this site is dedicated to Windows programming - and it's damn good at it. There are already problems with people posting crap under Anonymous entries - Imagine what will happen when all the hard-core Linux people come over here posting with their "Handles" and just posting stuff like "Linux is 3l33t - M$ is ...". Of course, it's your site, but IMHO, this should be kept as a Windows programming site. Have another poll even . Cheers, Peter Pearson

Chris, please, no. Please, do not add Linux section to this site. CodeProject is site about Windows programming. There are many, many places with OpenSource/Linux content on the web, so anyone who wants read this can go there. I love visit CodeProject because of its focus. I know what I can find when I come here. I have nothing against Linux, but I write code for Windows platform for living (as probably most of other fellow visitors here), so Linux stuff is just out of my interest. I simply have no time for this. If CodeProject will try to be about everything, then lose this its focus, I think. I really hate to imagine that I go there to see what's new appeared and just see that there are only few new articles about how-to patch some code in new kernel, and in that in Longue is nothing new too, just another post that 'Linux rulez and M$ is ...' and few guys debating there why some obscure code works better on Debian and do not works on ... Just my HO. Cheers, SlavoF "I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." --Confucius

Yeah, because there's a far bigger market for Linux developers than Windows.... Linux has it's place, but why do people who use/develop for it regard it almost like a religion ? What constitutes open source ? People contribute to this site, and often people suggest improvements. Anyone is allowed to download and use the code. Someone recently posted a dictionary/spellchecker thing requesting people contribute to it. How is all this not 'open source' ? Because it's for Windows ? Give me a break.... I wouldn't object to a Linux section if people wanted it, and I'd suggest if you want to see Linux stuff here, you submit some. Christian The content of this post is not necessarily the opinion of my yadda yadda yadda. To understand recursion, we must first understand recursion.

Igonre this one, Chris. I don't want to have to dig through a bunch of Linux twaddle to get to any useful code.
