Multimonitor and SLI?
-
Aah.. so SLI + Multimonitor = true then. Nice. :) Thanks for the link!
You said you tried two gfx cards side by side then? "already tried two graphic cards side by side, and it worked worse than it did with Windows 3.1..." What was wrong/different to SLI?
-
If I buy two SLI graphic cards, will I be able to attach 4 monitors (given that each card has 2 connectors)? I do not intend to use the actual SLI acceleration features (Unreal Tournament doesn't need that much acceleration ;)), I just want the extra DVI connectors without hassles (already tried two graphic cards side by side, and it worked worse than it did with Windows 3.1...)
> Unreal Tournament doesn't need that much acceleration Still playing the original UT? My friend and I are still playing Assault online, have been since it was released. Shame the new versions of UT haven't been as good.

SLI means that you are using them to produce one image. However, yes, you can buy two graphics card running in non-SLI configuration and power four monitors. You can also buy two SLI-single board cards (the SLI is on board, not external), and still use four monitors, but you cannot turn on SLI on the boards last time I tried. Trying to make me jealous by powering Four 30 inch monitors? ;)

I tried a non SLI setup. One nVidia cheap-o-matic something, and my old ATI card. It should work - in theory. I think the drivers fell ontop of eachother. Both Vista and XP said nasty things about my drivers. :~

I play UT Zeroping/instagib mostly. We play "classic" UT occasionally here at work. The new UT games have all sucked. I suspect UT 2007 (2008 soon? ;P) will suck just as much... UT99 for the win!! :-D

I've tried non-SLI configuration, and it failed miserably. Granted, it was one nVidia and one ATI card, so naturally Mr Murphy stepped in and took command. In theory, it should work! ;P

I'm trying to power my TV without having to resort to a HDMI/DVI-switch (which makes Vista totally crazy by the way!). Not that big of a deal. :)

I have "heard" rumors of someone once getting that to work... but I have never seen it.

From what I've read about UT2007/8, (They are calling it UT3 now I think), there is some hope that it will go back to the UT99 style of gameplay... So, fingers crossed :)

probably was the mixed brands issue. Someone else here had a nightmare of a time trying to get a PCI gfx card to work with 2 PCIe ones for a client that want/needed a 5 monitor setup.
