HELP!!! - Windows Xp Problems
-
I turned my comp on 10 mins ago, and when i logged on (home comp) to my section, to find windows *claims* my user profile is corrupt. I restarted twice, but it did not help. I ran system restore, which restored it to a point I hade made (on a hunch sumpthin would go wrong) 2 hours before hand. But that still did not work. I also tried deleting the files for the new profile that was made, but windows restored the files when i next logged on.....HELP ME PLZ!

Workgroup of Domain mode? If Workgroup, make a new account and copy your old documents into it from the folder for the old account. Domain, same as above.
"If at first you don't succeed.....you must be installing Windows..."
Windoze CP - Windows without the cr*p (Now with automatic bug eliminator!)

I've had the same problem recently with Windows XP Pro, however all I do is log off (not restart, the first time I tried that I lost the profile:eek: ) and then log on again and it seems to come back all by itself. I keep the dreaded "System Restore" switched off.:) What ever is causing it is a recent problem, in my case it started about 6 weeks ago and has resurfaced after a clean installation last week, never happened before, though even in the beta versions. Methinks maybe Microsoft has introduced something nasty into one of the upteen updates to XP, but who know's. Any ideas??? JohnJ http://www.rainbow-innov.co.uk

If XP crashes it is probably a hardware problem because it is built using win2k code which is very stable. I just had the same problems that you describe and the cause was a loose AGP card. As for your profile, If it is corrupt you cannot get it back from any of the recovery procedures. Just delete the .dat (its hidden by default) file in the "Documents and Settings\username" directory that is the file that windows is complaining about being corrupt. John

I could not understand why cos i got the newest drivers for it. Ill try seeing if it iss loose at all. or the problem could be that it is an ati based card. When i get the money (during the school hols when iget a job, or better, off my dad :-D ) i will get a GeForce card.

Newest drivers are not necessarily the most stable. I had horrible problems with new Nvidia drivers for a while on both Win2k and WinXP, so I had to use an old version I downloaded a while before. Nvidia's newest drivers are fine now.

I've still never had any problems with WinXP Pro [well... since I got the correct drivers for my graphics card]. I'm amazed at the amount of people that do actually have problems with it
