Voice Recognition - "Rick"
-
So I'm using some voice recognition software (testing it for a company) and whenever it hears my name "Rex" it outputs the text "Rick" instead. I've emailed the support team and notified them of the quirk. I went on to explain that I don't feel like a "Rick" so I said I would have to lift some weights and go buy a Corvette so that I could manage the identity crisis a bit better. This humor of course made me wonder how many people on CP I could distract into telling me what there stereotype of "Rick" would be. So when you think of "Rick" picture him pulling up to meet you for lunch at a restaurant. - What car/motorcycle/unicycle/etc... would he drive? - Thinning hair? Full head of hair? Long hair? - Sunglasses? - Overweight? You get the idea. What's your perception of Rick? I need to know so that I can resolve my own identity crisis as I have to live with being Rick from now on.:-D
I'd expect him to be: * ownwer of the restaurant * cynic * drunk think Bogart in Casablanca
We are a big screwed up dysfunctional psychotic happy family - some more screwed up, others more happy, but everybody's psychotic joint venture definition of CP

I have tested voice recognition software in the past and I am not sure they can do any thing to fix or even test this error being that everyones voice is different and everyone will have a different training file. There are a lot of factors that come into play here. The most important is how clearly you spoke (especially during training) and how long you spent with the training part. I have found out that in order to get decent results you have to train your voice to talk to the software and then no matter what the companies say small and most used words ( a an the ...) are a crap shoot at best and longer less said words are usually easy for the software to recognize.

As our infamous joke goes.... setting up voice recognition here is just bad news.... operator: "Hey Fred lets go to lunch." computer: "preparing to launch."

Rick has a long brown hair, balding in the back, with a style roughly following a shaggy mullet. Rich is middle age, suffering from a paunch, somewhat tallish, and has extremely pale skin, and wears sun glasses for no reason whatsoever, other than a vain attempt to look "cool". Rick may or may not have been in a band that wrote sad little pop tunes back in the 80's. Rick's face has *not* aged gracefully, with skin looking rather like Keith Richard's on a good day. Rick is an annoying twit who has somehow managed to attract and keep a supermodel for a wife (almost certainly through the use of leftover mind altering drugs he received from the CIA to infiltrate and corrupt 3rd world Communist countries in the late 80's). Rick is unstable, and you should be careful about what you say. Don't bring up cars.

Does Rick remember any of that, or was his "slate wiped clean" upon discharge from the CIA?

Rick is a circus midget. He has greedy eyes that follow your wife as you pass. He has a greasy mullet that he is constantly slicking back. When he isn't taking tickets to the freak show, he is applying for the "I didn't know that sexy stripper was my mom" show on Jerry Springer. I recommend you stay away from him! Hogan

I think the jury is still out on Rick's memory.

Actually my first thought was from Steel Magnolias. "All gay men have track lighting and all gay men are named Mark, Rick or Steve."

I knew a Ricky. Ricky Ferguson. His mother was a serial single mother living on benefits. His siblings were all basically headed for a life on the dole. He taught himself how to code, and the last I heard, was writing games for Nintendo. So, Rick is a name that inspires a memory I had a lot of respect for. I've googled him to try to catch up again, but with no success.

Thanks! I think there is always a curiosity about what female programmers look like.:)

you can stop there for most. ;) you could make a living raising squirrels and most here would still want to know what you looked like as long as you are female. Male, now and then someone will peek but only after curiosity gets to a certain level of "who the heck have I been talking to for the last 9 years?" ;)

Holy crap! All Hail leckey! :) Wayne and Garth would have something to say here, but undoubtedly the Lounge nazi's would throw a fit, so I'll refrain...

Hey, this isn't going to turn that you're actually just a 60 year old guy living in his Mom's house disparately seeking attention is it? Cause that would really be a bummer :(

Joergen questioned me last night. I told him that if he gave me his email I would send a copy of m picture from my high school yearbook with my name printed on it. Bad hair, but you can tell it's the same person. Besides, if I was going to use someone else's photo it would probably be my ex-best friend with long blonde hair and blue eyes. Why would I pick 'no eyelids' leckey? ;P
