Yes. After Feb. 17th of that year, you will need to purchase a digital-to-analog converter box. $40 coupons will be available starting next January to go towards the purchase of such a box.

Here in UK the set top boxes are about £30. And from last night the first area was switched off.

Not here in Brazil. :sigh: The expectation is to arrive in December at Sao Paulo, January in another cities, and in June/2008 in all the main Brazil cities. :( :^)

Click, this is more of a cultural observation. I don't know if they have BestBuys stores in Brazil but here in the US its where most of us go to geek out on the latest gadgets. If you are in a city here the odds are good that there is one within 10 miles of wherever you are. The fact that BestBuy no longer carries is a real watermark even no doubt.

Yup, here in the UK, analog is starting to get switched of, one areas down already, like previously mentioned. I think sometime in 2009 the last area goes off. And my area isn't until next year. I wouldn't be to suprised if the price of freeview boxes starts to go up... i can see it know, the night before a swicth off, eBay: "Last freeview box - next day delivery" £199.00

on the West coast, Fry's Electronics is the place to "geek out". Went there a few months ago to get a new CD drive for a repair job and walked out with $800 worth of stuff...how could I possibly pass up an extra external USB 2.0 500Gb drive for $110 and a ViewSonic 22" LCD for ~$180 (even if I already had them) :-O Steve

Drat.  First they ditch LPs for CDs, and now this.  Next thing you know they're going to stop processing black and white film. :( /ravi

Here in Croatia, most of our 4 :) channels, broadcast digital signal (as well as analog). The main ISP offered IPTV last year for the first time..hm.. or was it two years ago...and offcourse, ADSL is still not available for most of the country :(

All broadcast tv has to move to digital fairly soon i think 2008 or 9, stores cant sell analog tv's after jan 1 2k8, and cable companies in the US are more often than not closed circuit systems, and can do whatever they want on their sytem for as long as the want. granted staying analog probably wont do them any good if every one has tv's that wont use the analog signal. its enterily possible that my info is wrong or outdated, but thats what they've been telling tv stations in St Louis, my mom runs Master Control for one of them, and is very good friends wth the guy who upgrades and maintains all of ther equipment.

Funny you should mention that. The EPA has been coming down hard on film developers due to the heavy metals in film processing.

Hmm... most of the younger engineers at my firm (<30) who don't have kids have HD. Most of my friends my age with families cannot afford a $500 US Television. Engineers with single income. Most of the older folks are on the fence - they have the cash but only about 1/3 seem to blow it on TV. Most of these words were frivolously scribbled. D
