sonork: 100.18128 8028finder.comThey are around, but are not promoted heavily, as it is difficult to convince people to use them. Most of the people it would benefit the most do not have the time to learn to use them. But i'm sure that will change eventually, as more and more kids are getting cell phones... --------_**

Personally, I can't see the use of it - it takes longer to type in the message using the numeric keypad than it does to just talk to the person you're messaging (or leave them a voicemail). And besides, who needs SMS when always-on broadband is so incredibly cheap and available that people can check their email every 10 minutes if they want to? ;P My cell phone is 4 years old, and I carry it in my car in case of emergency or if I plan to use it for a particular event (e.g. finding friends at a concert, etc...). The way I see it, if I'm not at home, or not at my desk at work, then you can just sit there and wait until I get to one of those two places :) I don't want to be on-call 24/7. -- Russell Morris "WOW! "The advantage of e-mail over an answering machine is that with an answering machine the other person could actually pick up the receiver". [free quote] I think it's the same with SMS.

sonork: 100.18128 8028finder.comDon't even get me started about cell phones in the States... The still use (predominantly) CDMA and TDMA, though GSM is slowly creeping in. Cingular offers GSM (and hence SMS and all the other goodies). I'm not even going to speculate when the States will have things like GPRS. cheers, Chris Maunder Rub your belly and pat your head simultaneously.
