Which Vista version?

I will upgrade to Windows Vista very soon which version should I get? There are so many to choose which version has best features and value? Thank you for help.
Depends what you want to do with it. I think the Business version gives the best value for the money, but I use the Ultimate version because I always want every possible feature.

For personal use, home premium. For work use business. For dual use you need to check the features and decide if you can get by with one or the other, or need to shell out for ultimate. If you're willing to a buy an OS licence for
this computerinstead ofmy current computer(and *nix the old computer when you get a new one) you can get a system builder license for about 50% the cost of a retail version. What you loose in trade for the price cut is the ability to move your license to a new machine in the future. With XP it was primarily tied to the mobo and if you replaced it you had to do a phone activation and indicate you were only replacing a doa component. I don't know how vista handles hardware replacement with system builder licenses.-- If you view money as inherently evil, I view it as my duty to assist in making you more virtuous.

If you want to get any real work done, I recommend getting the XP version.

Pick up either Business (work stuff) or Home Premium (some work stuff + media pc). Only get Ultimate if you need every feature imaginable, or if you want Bit Locker. Otherwise, there's no point in getting Ultimate. As others have mentioned, getting the OEM or Upgrade licenses can save you money. Seriously, though, don't download illegal copies of it. You'll only cause yourself problems - such as getting blocked from security updates, or failing activation/validation and getting locked out of the OS. Flynn

Not true. If I took a $600K Ferrari with any possibility of buying, it would be considered Grand Theft Auto - a felony here in California, so stealing is stealing whether you cannot afford it or not.

There is a difference between physical items and digital items. Digital items can be copied. Physical items can only be moved.

Making that argument on a forum largely populated by people who's livelihoods depend on creating digital items isn't likely to work. If you can't afford it - vote with your pocket. It's not likely anyone requires vista to carry on breathing. As has been said, I *want* a ferrari. As I can't afford it, I do without. I *want* office 2009.7435, but if I can't afford it, I'll do without [*]. Iain. [*] not actually true - I still use word 6 when I can - loads fast, and does everything I want it to, except load documents created more recently by other people.

To which I'll add getting rootkits preinstalled. About a year ago someone posted a study about various warez copies of windows on the net. IIRC ~80% were preinfected with malware.

There is no difference, as others have pointed out. Digital items are valued at the cost of man-hours required to build it, as are physical items, though physical items have the additional material costs to go along with. Digital may seem to be more expensive, but it is not. by comparison digital technology move much faster than engineering/built items mostly because of the material cost difference. I wouldn't recommend asking people who's jobs go into those hours that value digital titles. We're not the ones to tell you how to steal our own work.
