The word might have evolved from "Saturn" ? the 6th planet? I don’t think the point is just with the number but the planet. The planet Saturn, by our religion, is believed to cast it's mischievous/troubling/terrifying actives on a person. If a person undergoes a bad, traumatic time they call it like "Saturn has taken the orbit for him" something very similar to that. But the catch is this, in our language we have a common word for both "Saturn" and the "Satan". Imagine calling the planet Saturn as "Satan". Both sharing the same word. The planets may actually have an impact on people or anything on earth. Most of us would think that these planetary control thingie is ridiculous but we may have to believe it soon. Because, even the moon control the tides, the ocean->a liquid, a thing in the same state inside our brain controls our stability. And so schizophrenic patients go mad2 on these moon-controlled days-> Full moon day and new moon day. And that's why the Christians have made a link between their werewolves, vamps and the moon. I believe these werewolves are simple schizophrenic people getting into their m-square state. And in our religion, when a person is currently caught up on a satanic-window, he's asked to go round the temple n times that could be to nullify the centripetal/fugal force ot the saturn. What a research in two minutes before I go to sleep. WOW. Ok, many would hate this theory and few may support it. We need a way to let you express your opinion and how much my point is accepted. Yes!! We have this voting system. That's nice . ok Anybody who supports this vote 5. And anybody who thinks it's a crap vote 5. good night! Updates![^] r6gads, Vunic.:-D

Astrologically speaking[^], it's always been my understanding that Saturn in one's natal chart (a.k.a. horoscope) indicated an area that "requires effort" & I've taken that as a positive thing - if you work hard at something you will be rewarded. Huh? I don't think that's a Christian thing, Vunic. The Christians I know of look at werewolves, vamps, and that kind of thing as scary movie material, not reality. The English term Satan probably comes from the Hebrew HaSatan, literally, "the accuser". But usually Christianity's and Judaism's Scriptures [they both share a good portion] refer to Satan as simple "the evil one", which may not necessarily refer to an individual.

If you think astrology is right, you might have a hard time explaining this[^]. Even if you stick to the original definition of the zodiac signs, you weren't born under the sign that you think you were. Also, saturn[^] probably has nothing to do with satan.

Hey, actually I dont belong to any religion. I do not follow anything. but I just searched for what's really been said in Hinduism about that saturn fella .. http://webonautics.com/mythology/shani_saturn.html[^] Looks interesting. Do you see the crow? may be it's related to the crow people generally christians consider "A bad omen"? Please note there's no chance of getting into a religious war just by using the word "Religion". It's just a comparison. A study ;)

Nonsense. I bit my tongue when Mt Ararat was taught to be the highest mountain in the middle east. When asked why the school book said another mountain the teacher defended that "it is a volcano, Ararat is a mountain" I again said nothing because Ararat is a volcano too. Surely I earned some "wings" for keeping my mouth shut. :) Only Saturn has influence on me... it's those sexy rings.

But in old scriptupres dont we see sainthoods holding a cross against a werewolf? or I saw them in vanhelsing:) lol. But I think Christianity has some reference to few satanic creatures. That's there in the Bible as explained in wiki. My concept is this. Anything starting with "Sa,Si" might be refering to number 6. Six.. Soixante..(fr) A number 6 simply can't be a bad one, so it's property could be refered from Saturn. The controvery planet.

You saw it in Van Helsing. Ahhh...good old Hollywood shaping our view of the world. :) For what it's worth, there's nothing in Christian Scripture (or Jewish Scripture, for that matter) about werewolves, nor anything about holding a cross against something to kill it, like you saw in Van Helsing. (The concept of having little crosses as jewelry, pendants, or charms is also a relatively modern invention. Wearing a cross around your neck would be really strange to folks in Jesus' time; it'd be akin to wearing an electric chair or guillotine around your neck today.)

"Satan" is named in the Bible as one of the devil's name. The name ist Hebrew. OTOH Saturn is the Roman god of Time, taken from Greek's Cronos.

Bad news for you mate, but Satan comes from the term meaning adversary. The symbol for satan (in the ancient hebrew) is the symbol for adversary.
