Actually yes, it's just not known. And there is no universe at all, it's just pretty huge grapefruit and we are living inside it.

I don't know its shape, but there is a restaurant at the end of it http://www.douglasadams.com/creations/0345391810.html -- Looking for a new screen-saver? Try FOYD: http://digilander.iol.it/FOYD

Ah well, if you read enough of Mr. Pratchett's stuff you can't help it . It just rubs off on you. Still, I am sure that on the discworld they can probably explain about the shape of the universe in exquisite detail. Also, the knobbly bits assumption seems to work surprisingly well for a great number of things so why not the universe. all for now. Filip

I read something once that said it was saddle (or pringle) shaped.

I'm gonna say it's shaped like a zero-gravity explosion, more or less sphereical. I've never been outside of it though, so that's merely a guess. Why not throw away a dime? I throw away ten pennies all the time.

Think about it for a while. What shape contains the most volumn in the least space and takes the least energy to maintain. Get that shape in mind then start it to rotate. If the universe is rotating ( and many think that it is ) then thats what it looks like. If not well.. back to square one. But this will have to be a thought experiment only. There is no way to verify it because by definition you cannot view the universe from outside the universe ( hey maybe thats a scientific definition for God ) because there is no "outside". Its kinda like the famous tachyon particle that cannot exist at any speed LESS than the speed of light. If it really does exist how can you detect it? Richard Monarchies, aristocracies, and religions....there was never a country where the majority of the people were in their secret hearts loyal to any of these institutions.
