Sorry if this has been asked before: Is it possible to have IE6 and IE7 installed on the same computer?

    Best wishes, Hans

Only if you partition your HDD correctly.

It can be done. Check this link: http://tredosoft.com/Multiple\_IE It comes as a very simple to install setup file. Enjoy.

Its very easy. A google search will help. Look for IE6Eolas downloads. Its a zip file with all the ie6 files needed in it and you just unzip them and run ie6 easy. We use it at work for testing. No partitions, no virtual machines just sits in my quick launch bar like any other program. Although I havent tested it very much as I use IE7 when Im making web pages (which I do a lot as a web programmer) I always test them in IE6 using the program above and it works well.

The question's a bit rhetorical as far as Windows is concerned, because I don't think you can install IE6 on Vista, and you have to have XPSP2 to install IE7, where IE6 is installed as part of the OS. So, if you're on XPSP2 and have installed IE7, they are both installed. If you uninstall IE7, IE6 should reappear by magic. Now, running them concurrently or separately is a different matter, but it should be possible with some judicious partitioning. Noel

Yes. A search on Google will reveal multiple options for doing the set up, or you can go here http://tredosoft.com/Multiple_IE[^] and download the Multiple IE installer.

I can confirm that installing MultipleIEs from TredoSoft.com works very well for basic testing. I've got IE 5.5, 6 and 7 all running side-by-side on my system without any problem.

Yes, but not the way you think. When running legacy or incapatible software it is best to setup a VM for just that purpose. You can use u$ connectex product, xen or vmware. All are free. vm's are great for maintaining legacy development environments like vb6, vb4, paradox, fortran 77, SAS 6, ORCAD ... all that old stuff where you still have to support. It is also great for testing all the new beta stuff. I also have a virtual domain setup on my workstation so I can mess with AD and Exchange issues and not hurt anybody. It's great fun for those of us who are old farts but still like to mess with the new stuff.

You can try Portable Internet Explorer 7, you can keep installed IE6 on your machine and use the portable one, I think you can have both of them on your computer. Try here: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=190

Yes you can. You can run multiple operating systems with Microsofts Virtual PC 2007. This will allow you to install windows xp / MSIE 6.0 and run them simultaneously. I don't remember the download even being that big... but I could be wrong. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/default.mspx[^] You may also need to d/l window xp image which MS provides free (and activated) here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=21EABB90-958F-4B64-B5F1-73D0A413C8EF&displaylang=en[^]

The easiest way if your not too bothered is just install IE7 and then open up "My Computer" and type the website into the address bar, all the icons and stuff will change to IE6

I can confirm that installing MultipleIEs from TredoSoft.com works very well for basic testing. I've got IE 5.5, 6 and 7 all running side-by-side on my system without any problem.

I second the MultipleIEs package for basic browser testing. There are a few issues, but for testing web apps/css/browser-based javascript/etc... it's just the ticket. I installed the whole package, and actually have IEs v3.0, 4.01, 5.0, 5.01, 5.5, 6.0 and 7.0 all working quite nicely side-by-side. I'll typically have IE 5.5, 6.0, 7.0, FireFox, Safari, and Opera all operating simultaneously during web development and CSS in particular (helps greatly to tame the box model hacks).
