How did you incorrectly deduce this?

Oh, please. Do you really imagine I'm going to believe you're quite as stupid as you're trying, at the moment, to pretend you are? This is what you said:

He's a troll, and we all know it. In this context, only an anti-Christian bigot would say anything even remotely like what you said.

I couldn't care less what he calls me. On one hand, he's irritating. On the other hand, he's entertaining. I'm glad I don't live on the same continent as him and dope head. They've gotta have a huge impact on the average IQ in the US. I don't think I have to tell you how they affect the average IQ. :-D [off topic] So, it looks like I'm buying a telescope this winter. Do you have any recommendations? I'm willing to pay top $2000. I have no idea what kind of telescope that'll give me, in terms of quality.

You should be able to get a great telescope in that price range. As far as which one is best, it all depends on what you want to do with it, there are hundreds of choices and each one works well for specific things. I would recommend reading and posting somewhere like www.cloudynights.com. But if you are wanting "do-it-all" type of telescope, an 8 inch Meade or Celstron cassegrain telescope should be a good choice. That seems to be the first serious telescope most people choose. The only problem with them is that they do not have quite as good light transmission as some other kinds of telescopes, because they use the large corrector plate. But they are compact and easy to set up and transport, and give sharp images, and they are also easier to collimate than a Newtonian of the same size. A Equatorial mounted Newtonian like this might also be a good telescope for visual or photography. http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~category_id=reflectors/~pcategory=telescopes/~product_id=24732 -- modified at 16:19 Tuesday 6th November, 2007

"Otherwise all your wit and cleverness is wasted ..." Now it's your wit and cleverness being wasted. "... is wasted due to my lacking language skills." I wouldn't venture to make a guess about your language skills. In this case, it's probably that you're unfamiliar with an idiomatic expression of American English (which probably originates with Yiddish comedians). "Would you explain what you meant?" When someone is trying, but not quite managing, to be humourous (or clever), we sometimes say "Don't quit your day job (just yet)" (which is to say, "If you think to earn a living telling jokes like that, you'll probably starve"). In this context, you were trying to make a serious assertion about what you'd previously said, but I was calling this new assertion a poor joke. "One of those rare moments of clear thought?" Hey! They happen; that's what's important. also: "Otherwise all your wit and cleverness ..." What can I say? I have a modest trove of English-language wittiness at my disposal. If I still remembered more than a few words of German, I *might* be able to carry on a very simple conversation, but word-play would be far beyond my abilities.

Not really a presumption so much as a plea to be sensible (knowing how futile that is). I hear ya, but I just cannot fathom wanting to fight on a message board. To that, I'm reminded of the immortal words of Socrates who once said "Fighting on the internet is like playing in the special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still a retard."

Yeah.. I suppose that's why I try to remain sensible and discuss. I have to say, your presence here is refreshing. It was getting pretty rank in here.

Hahaha! I have a picture of a boy crossing the finish line with exactly that phrase on it. And I've been known to say it here from time to time. :) It's why I don't bother. Seriously, people get way to emotionally involved with what goes on here...

Ya' see, the key clue that irrational and illogical persons ... such as yourself ... never, ever seem to pick up on is that calling another person "X, Y or Z" doesn't make it so.

"Anti-Christians" and "anti-Americans" are fundamentally irrational; they reject the discipline of logical thinking. For irrational persons, of whatever stripe, everything and its opposite can serve as confirmation of their irrationality, whenever and however they want it to. That is, after all, the entire *point* of turning oneself into an irrational person: one (imagines that one) gets to define reality as one wishes.

Very true. It's important to stay civil, but all of us fail at that sometimes. So, it's also important not to take things personally, which happens a lot on this board.

Yo, Tim Craig. I have you (and your buddies) pegged, too. You're irrational and illogical intellectual-sissy-bullies(*), and you intend to never change. I hope to embarrass you into changing. (*) "intellectual-sissy-bullies" - You kiddies want to right to have any old opinions, no matter how irrational. You, of course, do have the right to be as irrational as you can get away with. BUT, further, you (plural) want to silence opinions counter to yours -- and you don't have that right. AND, you (plural) especially want to silence anyone who tries to expose the illogical, and ultimately irrational, basis of your most cherished opinions -- and you don't have that right. And then, when your bullying doesn't do the trick, you combine it with whinning. And when that doesn't work, you ranp up the bullying.

Then shut the hell up. If you, any of you, don't care about my (logical) opinions about *your* (illogical) opinions, then shut up about it. Also, get a clue: when you (generality) stop expressing illogic, I'll stop laughing at the illogic.
