In this context, you were trying to make a serious assertion about what you'd previously said, but I was calling this new assertion a poor joke. "One of those rare moments of clear thought?" Hey! They happen; that's what's important. also: "Otherwise all your wit and cleverness ..." What can I say? I have a modest trove of English-language wittiness at my disposal. If I still remembered more than a few words of German, I *might* be able to carry on a very simple conversation, but word-play would be far beyond my abilities.
