I often complain about the Chatty Cathy's I work. Encountering the CC's in the non-work world is usually not as bad because you can move. However, I went to my chiropractor and decided to get a massage. The therapist would not shut up the entire time. She asked me how to make Taverns (referred to as Sloppy Joes in some areas). I'm here to relax, lady. So a couple questions... Has this happened to you before (stuck in a situation with a CC and can't easily leave)? What is a polite way to say, "Shut up?" Do any of you have TMJ? If so what have you found for relief? The chiropractor isn't helping much.

I'm sorry. You're mistaking me for somebody who gives a sh*t.

Yes, from time-to-time; stress. Get one of Silicon Mouth Guard[^] and sleep with it in your mouth. Takes some getting used to, but TMJ is often caused by a grinding of the teeth/jaws in your sleep. Ibuprofen is also excellent, but must be taken with care (too much is a bad thing). If that doesn't work, try amaretto and Ice cream.

What is TMJ ? I work from home, isolated from the outside world. When I go to physio, I look forward to having a conversation.

Pain or dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint is commonly referred to as "TMJ", when in fact, TMJ is really the name of the joint, and Temporomandibular joint disorder (or dysfunction) is abbreviated TMD. This term is used to refer to a group of problems involving the TMJs and the muscles, tendons, ligaments, blood vessles, and other tissues associated with them. Some practitioners might include the neck, the back and even the whole body in describing problems with the TMJs. --From Wikipedia My jaw goes out of place and when I open my mouth I can actually feel the jaw 'rock' to the left. I'm a clencher so my muscles tense and keep moving it out of place. My neighbor works from home so I have to be careful. A quick question can end up being a 20 minute conversation. All on her part.:)

Dangerous strategy that. She might be a lesbian on the look out for a girlfriend as well, and you're in her hands (so to speak) - difficult to get away.

I don't see how, either way would likely result in less talk. ;)

http://www.crazyboards.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=489[^] Any amphetamine can cause tension and jaw clenching, just about any stimulant can. I have noticed that my shoulders and back are extremely tense at times and I started clenching my jaw sometimes after two week on Wellbutrin. Wellbutrin can also be used to treat ADHD/ADD.

Take a long time to reply and use short responses that do not invoke additional details. Instead of replying: "Oh, I love taverns. I use my grandmother's secret recipe that has been handed done for generations" Reply: "*long pause* They have sloppy joe mix in the market."
