Sure, I'll be in Birmingham from early February till sometime in March. I'll have quite a bit of free time with the wife getting herself ready to give birth. Suits you then?

Awesome! As is, I'm hoping to have some sort of get together while I'm there. I'd like to meet many of the guys that are here in the forum.

So, my wife found out that a friend's workmate lost her husband to an internet affair. So, she's in a funny mood, talking about cheating, looking through my emails ( I do have a female friend who I write to most days, buy she's married and nothing like that is remotely on the cards ), etc. Women...

Lol, yesterday my wife found long blond hairs on my sweater... . . . . . My colleague was outside smoking and I lent her my jacket... Luckily my wife and I have a good understanding. (yes it's the truth, really ;p)

That reminds me of the Far Side cartoon of the female chimp grooming the male, and saying "So, another blond hair - conducting a little "research" with that Jane Goodall tramp?"...

Last weekend, my wife and I bumped into an old girlfriend of mine, along with her husband. She's the same age as me, but looks to be in her mid twenties. I introduced her to the family and she made a fuss of the kids. When we were walking away, Jennifer said to me "I didn't know she was that pretty". She's only just started to speak to me civilly:sigh:. I haven't seen this girl in 20 years, we've both married other people and we broke up because there was no real spark there. What does my wife think I'm going to do now? Break up from a happy marriage and attempt to split another couple? She wants to remember that I chose her and chose to spend the rest of my life with her - not somebody else.

Don't tell us about it; tell your wife. Maybe there's something else that's making her feel insecure, and this is the way it's coming out. It sounds like she'd like some reassurance.

Yup - also been there and done that. To be honest, its more to do with us being at that "certain age" where you wonder if you've peaked and achieved everything that you are likely to. Added to this, is the fact that people refer to her as Catherine's mum or Hannah's mum and I fully understand why she feels a bit down - it's no fun when your whole identity seems to be based on others. Anyway - she knows how I feel about her, together 20 happy years and I don't regret a day of it (well, except for my second stag do but that's a completely different story involving consuming insane amounts of alcohol).

Wow. That's a bit heavy. Does she know that you know that she's looking through your mails? The post below is right on the money with the attention thing. The tricky bit is to spoil her a little to reassure her that you're still crazy about her and that nothing is going on, without making it look like you're covering up for somethiing... it's a frickin' tightrope!! Best of luck with it, these woman things are tricky. They should come with an instruction manual...

Glad to hear it. It's amazing how many guys get to this age (e.g. middle) and don't realize some of the fundamentals.

I hear that one. When my daughter was in Catholic school, I volunteered a lot and got used to being "Celeste's dad". I didn't mind, but I do have a name of my own. The best comment on this was from our parish priest one time: He was in 'civilian' clothes (no Roman collar), talking to some of us. Someone kept calling him 'Father'. He finally popped up and said "Calling me by my first name isn't a sin, you know. I kind of like it, myself." :-D

Different continent! Here in UK sex and marriage are legal at 16. (to be fair, Michelle was only 3 weeks from her 18th Birthday when I met her). If you really want to worry ages of consent in other European countries vary from 18 to 12! (14 in France, 15 in Germany, but 12 in Holland, that I think is not only too young, but borderline savage). Those who think I was manipulating a young girl for the worst of motives should be ashamed of themselves for thinking such things, I just fell in love!

I know you didn't ask for advice, but that has never stopped me before. :) It's wrong for her to look through your emails. That said, I don't think that she would be doing it if there wasn't something arousing her suspicions. I believe you when you say that nothing is going on, but that doesn't change her suspicions. I will also be willing to bet that those suspicions were there before this other persons affair. It may die down, but it isn't just going to go away. You might also want to examine your relationship to your email buddy. The fact that she is married has no bearing on the issue. Be careful not to develop an emotional attachment or talk with her about problems with your respective spouses. That is the first step down a road you don't want to travel.

yes, it is. Though most people don't realize the problems often start at home. This is why insecurities don't help. An affair is common in America because of a variety of problems that get ignored in relationships. The Internet is neither the cause nor the initial problem, BUT it does make it exceedingly easy.

So, my wife found out that a friend's workmate lost her husband to an internet affair. So, she's in a funny mood, talking about cheating, looking through my emails ( I do have a female friend who I write to most days, buy she's married and nothing like that is remotely on the cards ), etc. Women...

One thing she should be cautious of, though it does it no good to tell her about it, is self-fulfilling prophecy. You can make life so miserable at home through suspicion and putting your every move under the microscope or you under lock and key, and ultimately drive you away. I do not defend men in these actions, and there are guys who just cannot settle down, but the reasons for all things are not the same. She can't compare this guy to you without severe repricusions in her own life. Each situation being different, the trick is evaluating the situation based on the events within the situation, not based on what might have happened in another situation. I often describe my second marriage as being 9 years long in a marriage that should not have lasted 5 years. At the very end I was watched and monitored in every move, even getting caught in traffic from an accident was questioned heavily. The problems did come from me saying there was a problem with our marriage, the result was to make those problems worse until all the small problems were huge problems.
