BCGControlBar will be integrated into MFC in VC2008

Sounds like they were desperate to add *something* for MFC, didn't want to spend any money, and took the cheapest option they could find ( reading Kirk's post, it comes off that way )

I'm stunned. I honestly thought if anyone was going to get snapped up for the new stuff in MFC it would be Kirk's CodeJock[^] toolkit. c'est la vie.

Sorry to disagree. We have used BCG library in our open source products, and will always prefer it to the Kirk's products. Interestingly, Kirk seems to be talking about some stability issues we have not experienced. Best regards, Paul.

That's pretty cool. Surprising, but. You can set up an app to always run as admin, I thought. Perhaps the installer is already doing that ?

I don't think so....I've been running mine from my own shortcut - runs the same (AFAIK) either as administrator or not. MArk

The BCGControlBar was ok until 2005, used it in a freeware app, after then it became worse and worse. The Xtreme ToolkitPro performs far better, though it is easier to integrate the BCGControlBar into an existing MFC app.

I do not know which part of the ToolkitPro that is getting better. I recently tried to used their text editor, and it was useless on Japanese Windows, so when you hear Kirk claiming a "pride in our product", you just cannot help but laugh. Some things in BCG library could be better, but they have decided to favor their UNIX customers. Places where they could use a hook and subclass, they will not because such will not ensure the UNIX porting. Now, if they have to clean up and do Windows only product for the MFC team, Kirk's stuff will not come close. Best regards, Paul.

Don't get me wrong: BCG's stuff is right up there and I think he procudes some of the best stuff out there. I just always assumed that if anyone would be bought out it would be Kirk.

Yes But you will still get the prompt. In case of VS 2008 I don't get the prompt. Either way what I want to know is how the ASP.NET Debugging (non IIS) works.

That just shows how far out of touch MS is. MFC was fine the way it was. The IDE is what needed all their attention.

Please keep in mind that the Syntax Editor has just been released a few months ago, so I wouldn't call it a mature product. It does need some improvements, but they listen to customer requests.

Do you think VS2008 will be usable under a regular user account, or will we still have to run it as admin?
Why would you need to be admin using VC++? Is that on Vista? Certainly not on XP. (I only have seen Vista once from the distance, and I am praying it stays that way).
