It is Friday today. So what are your weekend plans? For me, tomorrow I have to meet with my friend. She is coming down to Chennai from Bangalore. It is my birthday also tomorrow. :) On Sunday, I have another friend to meet whose wedding comes sometime next month. She wants me to accompany in a little shopping for the same. So it is going to be a kind of 'travels to shopping places' and a few temples en route, to keep up with the regular ;) weekend plans.

Yesterday right? Today actually, in North India, they would be celebrating as 'Lakshmi Pooja'.

Don't worry. Even me addressing a coding horror. And it comes close to my birthday eve and I am still doing some wild-goose chase at a wierd coding horror. Quite a few of my colleagues too are celebrating birthdays this month and I have blogged about them here: http://deepakvasudevan.blogspot.com/2007/11/crowning-celebration-month-birthdays_03.html[^] -- modified at 12:00 Friday 9th November, 2007

We're off to a DVD evening (chocolate + Die Hard 4, so we get both food groups *) with some devs from one of the companies we work with. Should be fun. :) * Chocolate and cheese, if you haven't figured it out Unfortunately Saturday is catching-up-with-company-paperwork day, as we've put off a load of things over the past month in order to prepare for the conference in Cologne last weekend. It was well worth it, though...we had a great time (there's a writeup on my company blog if anyone wants to see the mugshots), learnt a lot and made both new contacts and friends. :)

I'll be working all weekend, including the holiday Monday. At last the project I've been working on for a year and a half is coming together, and it's moving so smoothly it makes me nervous. We've been pouring foundations for substation structures all week, and will start the bases for self-supporting steel power poles Saturday. Those should be interesting, as they are designed to be 7' in diameter and 32' deep in wet sand. The water table is only 11' in most sites, so I want to watch how the crew does that trick. The beauty of it is that the nominal manager for the customer on this job wants to visit next week to discuss environmental concerns and review our plans for mitigating them. We'll be done before he arrives. The miscellaneous parts are all here, the steel poles are on schedule, the control house is in final test and ready to ship, we have the manpower and tools, and I'm looking over my shoulder expecting the other shoe to drop. I'm not used to this, as my career experience has consisted almost entirely of being handed a job already in serious trouble, with the expectation that I'll be able to fix it. I always have, but to have a project from cradle to grave is something new for me. Something's gotta go wrong. This just ain't right!:suss:

Saturday: Change the oil in my car, performing the routine "3000-Mile Cleaning" of the interior as well. Do laundry. Play Starcraft for a few hours, wishing I had the cash to build a better computer that can run Starcraft II when it comes out. Drink beer. Other activities as I think of them. Sunday: Repeat Saturday, sans the vehicle maintenance. Monday: Wish it was next Friday. :-D
