Mysterious Neck Pain
-
For the past few days, my neck and shoulders have been hurting quite a bit. I couldn't think of what I'd done to them, and then this afternoon it hit me: My headphones are too heavy! :laugh:
Wake up and face me, Don’t play dead, 'cause maybe Someday I’ll walk away and say, “You disappoint me, maybe you’re better off this way."

Had a similar problem wireless mouse, due to the batteries' weight - and that even though I'm mostly a keyboard jockey (nitpickers: It was not my neck that started hurting)

Now that's a good idea! :laugh: All that blood rushing to my brain is bound to make me think better. And probably blind me....but that's an insignificant detail...who needs vision anyway?

Aww, thanks! :cool::rose:
How I look is not as important as how I act. It is okay to laugh at funny things, but not to laugh at others. I appreciate my family, my teachers, and my school. Each day offers a new start to do my best. I try to learn something new each day.

I'm more than just a little curious how you're planning to go about making your amends to the dead.

I've had that for the past 6 months or so. My Dr. is guessing that its posture or being out of shape (I used to play hockey and football, then rugby, now nothing for the past > 2 years, I'm seriously out of shape and I've put on LOTS of weight :( ), or the positioning of the laptop. The last being that the laptop is too far below my field of vision and thus causes strains on my neck because of the constant looking down. Today, I start a diet and with it I start going to the gym in hopes that I can fight the battle of the waist line and improve my health and posture. I've been considering buying a bike and biking to and from the office which is about 2Km away, but I'm sort of turned off by the proposition as Amman is quite hilly. Then again, that's better for the exercise... :doh:

As great as being a member would be, hopefully I'll never qualify. Perhaps my characteristic erratic and highly energetic movements are good for something. ;P I'm also loosie-goosie all the time! :laugh:

Yeah, fix that as soon as possible.

Good luck! :rose: Remember, a large variety of foods is always the best. None of this 'grapefruit diet' crap. Also, a science teacher at my school (they're all quite mad, honestly ;P) had this idea of refrigerating a litre of water every night and drinking the whole thing every morning. The body expends quite a lot of energy warming it up to body temperature, which is why you never eat snow in a survival situation. Also remember - badly fitted shoes bugger up your posture. Either get *very* good ones, or eschew them as often as possible.

Well...no pain, no gain, as probably the worst rule of thumb in human history. The person who came up with that probably didn't even HAVE a thumb - maybe it was cut off for stupidity. ;P Still, it won't be pain, but rather very tiring work. It'll wake you up better than any cup of coffee ever could, perhaps because you gain a complete tolerance to caffeine in less than a month and the majority of the American population is probably completely tolerant to it. :laugh:

I am lovable. I am a good person no matter what anyone does or says. I do not give up - I keep trying. I cannot control what grown-ups do. I try to learn something new each day. I am being polite when I wait for my turn and say please and thank you. It is okay to laugh at funny things, but not to laugh at others.

So, pencil-necked geek is a familiar greeting for you? :P

You don't have to be that cool to head-bang, but there are ways of doing it and ways of doing it, and some ways you need a really long, hard session for a stiff neck, and some ways just a few old favourites will give you whiplash.

Well.. maybe. If that's the case you can do some neck exercises to make your neck stronger. Every 2 years or so, my neck muscles weaken just enough that I get constant headaches because the muscles are working too hard to hold up my head, leading to stress headaches. The solution is just to do an exercise a few times a day for a couple of days until the muscles strengthen again.. The exercise is pretty simple: You need to sit or stand perfectly straight. Then, simply pull your head straight back so that your chin is trying to contact with your chest. Imagine a horizontal line, and you want the axis of your head to travel perfectly straight along that line. You'll look kinda like a duck pulling its head back and forth. Resist the temptation to hunch your shoulders - you want your neck doing ALL the work. Also resist the temptation to turn your head down to let your chin meet your chest - this is a test to get the muscles in the back of the neck to hold up the head. Those are (or should be) the strongest muscles, and if you're having neck and shoulder pain, it means they aren't as strong as they should be. If this is hard to do when sitting or standing, you can stand up against a wall and pull your head back until the back of your head hits the wall. Repeat the exercise 5-10 times, holding the position for about 10 seconds each time. If your neck muscles are weak, the first few times you do this you'll think it's impossible, because you simply won't be able to. It gets better. You'll know you don't need to do it anymore when it's easy. It should only take a couple of days if you do it 2-3 times a day. Couple days of that makes the neck muscles alot stronger. By the way, I got this exercise from a chiropractor, one of the few I don't think is a quack. Helped me alot.

advice: tying these[^] together with a clothes hanger does not make a headphone... your chiropractor wanted more money from you, this was why he suggested it! ;P
