For the past few days, my neck and shoulders have been hurting quite a bit. I couldn't think of what I'd done to them, and then this afternoon it hit me: My headphones are too heavy!

Wake up and face me, Don’t play dead, 'cause maybe Someday I’ll walk away and say, “You disappoint me, maybe you’re better off this way."

Your computer screen should be at eyelevel - believe me, it makes a world of difference. Make sure you have a good chair - when I bought my computer chair for my home computer my back felt much better after a few days.

Well.. maybe. If that's the case you can do some neck exercises to make your neck stronger. Every 2 years or so, my neck muscles weaken just enough that I get constant headaches because the muscles are working too hard to hold up my head, leading to stress headaches. The solution is just to do an exercise a few times a day for a couple of days until the muscles strengthen again.. The exercise is pretty simple: You need to sit or stand perfectly straight. Then, simply pull your head straight back so that your chin is trying to contact with your chest. Imagine a horizontal line, and you want the axis of your head to travel perfectly straight along that line. You'll look kinda like a duck pulling its head back and forth. Resist the temptation to hunch your shoulders - you want your neck doing ALL the work. Also resist the temptation to turn your head down to let your chin meet your chest - this is a test to get the muscles in the back of the neck to hold up the head. Those are (or should be) the strongest muscles, and if you're having neck and shoulder pain, it means they aren't as strong as they should be. If this is hard to do when sitting or standing, you can stand up against a wall and pull your head back until the back of your head hits the wall. Repeat the exercise 5-10 times, holding the position for about 10 seconds each time. If your neck muscles are weak, the first few times you do this you'll think it's impossible, because you simply won't be able to. It gets better. You'll know you don't need to do it anymore when it's easy. It should only take a couple of days if you do it 2-3 times a day. Couple days of that makes the neck muscles alot stronger. By the way, I got this exercise from a chiropractor, one of the few I don't think is a quack. Helped me alot.

That is a therapeutic device designed to afford my shoulder, which bares the weight of my hand when using a mouse, some relief. The attraction between the beer bottle and my mouth helps counteract the effect of gravity on my hand.

Say what? If I have this correctly, the back of my head is sort of being raised, and my chin pulled in toward my throat. I can feel serious strain on my the back of neck after just one rep.

You've just never experienced the mind-blowing awesomeness of it.

Yep. This is how it strengthens the muscles in the back of the neck - by fighting against that strain. Of course, keeping your head like that for extended periods of time would be dangerous :) It's just an exercise to put resistance on the neck muscles. The specific muscles there are pretty hard to target.
