Dependant I suppose on where you are in the world, geographically, not sociologically or psychologically, it is with an upbeat heart that I announce that Ladbrokes,(Bookmakers), have reduced the odds of a white Christmas from 8/1 to 6/1 because it was a bit cold yesterday and some snow fell on a hill up north. For those not in the know, a White Christmas for the bookmakers is defined as 1 single snowflake! However it has to land on the Roof of the London Weather Center Between 00.00am and 23.59hrs Christmas Day. When you consider that New York is often whited out for months in winter and they are at the same lattitude as Madrid, we are further north by quite some way and haven't had an official White Christmas for Years and Years. In fact the last Truly White Christmas,(Massive snow, stayed for ages, was about 1989-90! Good old Global Warming I say!:) However I am concerned! There are so few people in UK who have ever driven in long term ice and snow that I fear a massive spate of accidents and that will push my insurance up! On the other hand, it is nice for it to snow on Christmas Day!

In Australia, White Christmas is a sweet made with vegetable fat.

it's the Gulf Stream[^] that's responsible for us having a mild(ish) climate. Global warming is most likely to melt the icecaps, disrupt the stream, and plunge is into a Canadian. style climate.

Here in Norway we have snow every year. But on the first day it always comes as a surprise to many, resulting in a spate of accidents.

I have friends who live in Toronto and they try to take their holidays in Winter to get away from the worst of it. We often meet up in Cuba in February, and as we fly from UK we pass over Eastern Canada. The Frozen Rivers are beautiful at 35,000 feet! All whiteness and purity as I am sipping a Gin and Tonic and watching an inflight movie. I wouldn't want to be on the Ground, thats for sure! PS My 500th Posting!:)

There was enough to make the M5 and M42 a bit slippy - I was driving from Bristol up to Derby in what felt like a blizzard. But only the outside lane of the motorway was at all hazardous, really. People were even driving quite sanely, as well, which was nice.

There are so few people in UK who have ever driven in long term ice and snow that I fear a massive spate of accidents and that will push my insurance up! On the other hand, it is nice for it to snow on Christmas Day!

If we had a White Christmas in Bournemouth I don't think the palm trees would like it. :->

Bah! It's not snow until there is at least a half-inch. Every company that has a Snow Pool has a minimum 1/2 inch.

you probably get more snow per week on average than London England gets all winter. Minor details like htat tend to skew the design phase.

it's the Gulf Stream[^] that's responsible for us having a mild(ish) climate. Global warming is most likely to melt the icecaps, disrupt the stream, and plunge is into a Canadian. style climate.

In Australia, White Christmas is a sweet made with vegetable fat.
