How are the Scopes figured out (for example: 22.0.0.0/8, 22.22.0.0/16, 22.22.0.0/20, /21, /22, etc...)?? Is there someone with a program example to figure this out?? Regards, Dan

Good question, Daniel, but I'll have to do some research. I have a table around here somewhere, but can't locate it at the moment. Generally, though, the number after the slash defines the number bits available to separate hosts on the subnet. When I reserved a subnet allocation for my last employer, I was assigned a block of 8 IP addresses, the lowest of which was defined as the network address, the highest as the broadcast address, and the 6 in between were usable on my network for hosts. This was termed a /29 block, as my subnet mask used three of 32 available bits to differentiate hosts. A /28 block would use 4 bits, etc. Perhaps this is enough info to answer your question - /x means there are 'x' bits set in the subnet mask for a particular network.
