I enjoy it when people mis-pronounce a word but the result is even better than the original. I watched a Microsoft Web Cast where the presenter was pronouncing "Developer" as "Devil Lipper" which fits in an odd way. Anybody care to share their favorites?

A dozen or so years ago, Apple was about to roll out their latest version of the Mac, and one of our executives read an article that convinced him it was going to save the world. Our department was due to replace our hardware, so he insisted we go the this big Apple rollout event at a downtown hotel. One of the people on Apple's nationwide CCTV spiel kept saying "spread shit" instead of "spreadsheet." There we were, surrounded by fanboyz giving us dirty looks 'cuz we were laughing so hard.

Well I can't say it is my favorite but people constantly mispronounce my name. The funny part is: No one mispronounces Dennis or Tennis yet somehow the more illiterate in the population seem to have a way of pronouncing Ennis rather inappropriately.

I can only think of one way to plausibly mispronounce your name - and I'm not going to put a 'P' at the front. Please tell me I'm wrong... Maybe they're thinking of you as a male Enid? Iain.

One of the better stories concerning "wrong names" was when James Earl Jones was going to be honoured in his home town with a plaque on the Family Home. There they gathered, the Family, The Worthies and Notables of the town and James Earl Jones himself. He pulled the cord an let the world see the plaque, on which was inscribed "James Earl Ray"!!! (James Earl Ray was the man who assassinated Martin Luther King, so it was doubly insulting to the Black Actor!) Whoever made that cockup never came forward, I wonder why? :)

A few years back the Network people came up with the scheme of standardizing all user names to first letter of the first name and then the first seven letters of the last name. They reversed the scheme afer an older woman named Peggy Enis complained loudly.

                Her and Brenda Utthead.

Otherwise [Microsoft is] toast in the long term no matter how much money they've got. They would be already if the Linux community didn't have it's head so firmly up it's own command line buffer that it looks like taking 15 years to find the desktop. -- Matthew Faithfull

I'd believe you except that c-pound developer has been used a title for WTF writers for years.

Some of those were quite funny. Morgan Freeman's "Shame on You" seemed to be the most tasteful brush off I suppose.

Dennis Pennis is the creation of Paul Kaye, and gained quite a renown here in the UK. Possibly the best expression was Demi Moores when she was asked if she would keep her clothes on in a film if it was tastefully done.
