Bobby Fischer Checkmated[^] It seems he has played his last game them! I seem to remember some of the great battles of this time, Karpov was around then wasn't he?

He reached the last square... :rose: Odd. I remembered him earlier this week, because I realized my colleague is his namesake.

I believe he went mad, demanding draws to be counted to him, and that certain people couldn't were certain things etc. I suppose madness affects Ches GM's, Karpov believed his yoghurt was helping him and Korchnoi wore mirrored glasses so he couldn't be hypnotised by murderers in the crowd! Presumably Nutters Only Need Apply! :)

I wonder if some/a lot of the grand masters suffer from autism or related conditions. There was a fascinating program a few months back on C4 (I think) about a bunch of British kids training for the Math's Olympics (or whatever it's called), and a fair few of them had some form of autism, especially those who were exceptionally gifted mathematicians.

V.Anand from India does not have such whimsical peculiarities. A very down-to-earth chess player with no tantrums and baggage associated with him.

Well I am slightly Aspergers, lists and lines, arrange things in groups by commonist to least common etc. The worst part is my food. I can have nothing touching anything else on a plate, it drives me do-lally! (Except Gravy, that is allowed, and Never Ever anything Yellow(Except Pudding Gravy(ie Custard))). Punctuality is God! If people are 1 second late I start getting anxious, and by 1 minute I am convinced they aren't coming and leave! I am not Great at chess, presumably because I am not Autistic enough?

Indeed, I've noticed this about this player!

Possibly... but i think autism is too lazy a label for the whole panoply of human variation.

An odd bloke, but he will be missed all the same. He was my inspiration to learn chess, a game I now love dearly but am not very good at. :( /ravi
