MR MARC, IM HURT THAT U POST MY QUESTION N LOUNGE. I WANT ASK THE GR8NESS U R FOR ANSWERS. BUT NOW IM HURT TOO MUCH TO ASK AGAIN. ;P Wow, you know I never realized how difficult that is to type. I had to go back and remove the YO from YOU every single time, I just automatically typed it no matter how hard I concentrated. I also thought typing in all caps would be easy, since I keep missing some caps in my typing anyhow. But it also was difficult. :-D I think that is the last time I will attempt a joke like that, it is just too difficult to type like that. :-D

If being a smarmy suck-up is a religion now, yeah. To be fair, i haven't read it. I sat through a speech by the author years ago though, easily among the most depressing things i heard while in school. Next time you're having a conversation with someone you've just met, and they seem to be repeating your name a lot... ask 'em if they've read the book. It's like, a dirty little "make you like me" trick or something. :sigh:
But who is the king of all of these folks?

I do that to many people, and I didn't need some silly book to tell me that. ;P

Yet the book still sells extremely well. The language in the examples may have changed (they sound very formal for modern ears or readers) but the principle is sound.

True - It taught me a few things. And I cringe when people break the "rules" in the book. I still do sometimes, but much less than before as I am more aware of what I am saying or reading.

It's been a while, so I don't remember the specifics, but I walked away with the sense of "if you sincerely look out for the best interests of others, more often than not they'll do the same for you." Seems like a pretty decent approach to living. Of course, those who thing this stuff is smarmy or manipulative typically overlook the "sincerely" part. Mind you, not everyone is a good person who will reciprocate or refrain from abusing your goodwill, but I've found that I generally fare well if I just try to treat others decently.
