Today I had to visit ICICI Bank for a quick payment. The branch I visited has two chairs per customercare desk besides the banking hall so that one customer can transact and another customer can sit near him ready for his turn instead of sitting in the queue of the open hall a few steps away. The other guy who was filling up the form suddenly was faced with a piquant situation of having his pen dying down (It was a refill pen). I had to lend him mine and in the melee, I could observe the date which he had filled in the challan at the top right? He had written it as 'February 30 2008'. When I pointed out this, the customer care staff who I believe didn't give me a full hearing arrogantly replies 'It is correct'. I asked her "What is correct? Does your bank's calendar has 30 or 31 days for February". When only, I raised the vocal volume a bit, she noticed the issue and asked him to correct. Shameless craps! I really wonder how come a bank staff can be some ignorant of bank dates besides showing a rude face to the customer on genuine issues thus making herself show as a rude dumbass.

Yep. A lot of them. Typically in India, you can find the following categories in the workings of bank: 1) Seven day banking [State Bank of India[^] has a number of branches working all days of the year] 2) 24 hours [As I recall, (Standard Chartered Bank (Chennai Branch)[^]) has this. 3) 8 AM to 8 PM operations (ICICI Bank[^] and Bank of Baroda[^]) As long as your transactions are within the same bank or branch like (Transfer from Account to Account, Credit Services [Card/Loan]) you can make the best use by completing the transaction immediately. If it involves engaging other parties like Clearing Cheques, then we ought to wait for the usual three day cycle to get the task completed.

And at least ICICI would do that for sure, to fleece-and-cheat customers. Have you come across [Arjun's weblog](http://www.arjunprabhu.com/blog/archives/2005/04/27/icici-bank-a-bad-experience-for-many/ -)[[^](http://www.arjunprabhu.com/blog/archives/2005/04/27/icici-bank-a-bad-experience-for-many/ - "New Window")]?

Don't yours? Here in the US many small branches (based in grocery stores for customer convenience) are open on Sunday as well.

Here they've just taken the banking into to the actual grocery store, not a small branch in there, but you can do basic transactions at any of the checkouts, with certain banks.

Here in Japan, I have not yet seen one. Of course there are ATM services everywhere for you to put/take/transfer money, and some just starting 24 hour services. Best regards, Paul.

Well, a date on a check is really just for the check-writer's benefit, no one else really cares what it says, you may write whatever you like there.
