Wasting Time in Lounge [modified]

It's not time wasted. For example, I gained insight today into the nature of frameworks: You might say a framework is a structured, possibly hierarchical, interconnected collection of components (whereas a library is a loose collection of disconnected components).[^] I was also reminded about how valuable this community is: CP is just kind of AWESOME in that regard because it's a virtual extension of our professional lives. We don't know each other in person but we know each other well.[^] And read reviews of the movie Transformers: Very cool.[^] I learned that thermals, fleece, jacket, gloves, scarf and hat[^] are not appropriate apparel this time of year in Melbourne. I learned that it is possible for CPians to use a chainsaw[^] without losing appendages[^]. There is a problem with interferance between WLAN and weather radar[^]. I had no idea. There were other things I learned having to do with Ruby on Rails, Career choices, Star Wars ASCII movies (using telnet of all things) and so on... So you see, it was far from time wasted. :-D

When people stop wasting my time with trivial problems that they could solve for themselves if they took at least 1 millisecond to do some research then, yes, I will help them. Also, like many of my esteemed counterparts here, I can multitask so I can help people and then switch to a different window and post something in the lounge. Finally, let me check the label on the inside of my shirt; nope I don't work for you - this is a volunteer based site, so I can choose to spend my time here wherever I like.

So the choices are wasting time in the lounge, or helping people like you? Boy, that's a tough one.
Best wishes, Hans

I am not wasting time. I am here, because all our Indian friends post programming questions (coding doubts or whatever you call it) here in the lounge.

Yup. The rude little b*gger was whining about nobody answering his question - which he'd posted less than a day ago.

It is not a big rocket science and is a very common thing in India. People loiter around everywhere flirting with the friends of opposite sex in the cafeteria and restaurants till the 23rd hour and then rush up to make some fancy things trading off quality.

This reminds me of a few friends who work for highly reputed companies. Though their technical skills are below par, they are champions in bragging about their achievements.

I dont know, but I find that one to be one of the most attractive messages/replies ever. It was something similar to a good cricket shot. That's a six! Neat like Yuvraj's. wow! I see you are in an excellent form. Keep it up Brahmma!;) :D

Well - this at least puts some perspective on some events. My employer hired a contractor to develop a database and some software - who proceeded to contract it out to India. Let's just sum up the quality/insight (=results) as best descirbed by a long loud flushing sound.

Don't you think visiting Lounge and wasting spending time here is much better than visiting matrimonial sites or playing solitaire? :) Yes I have seen people surfing though matrimonial sites or playing solitaire during working hours. :-D

I think there is no greatness in answering to mediocre questions in the forums. I lurk around in the forums everyday and should admit that the quality of questions that are being asked in the forums has deteriorated. I very rarely ask a question there. I am not an expert in coding, but I can see most of the questions that are being asked there is either a simple one, the one that could be solved by putting a little effort, or the questions that have been asked a number of times already.

Well, I can only say that, no matter what question you ask in forums, you still find necessary help in there ( unless the question does not comply according to the rules of the forum ;) ).

WTF is it with you Indians that you cant work your code out yourself? What is it, stupidity, laziness? I have never heard so much feeble bleating and whining as comes from your countryfolk. Have you no pride? No sense of engineering accomplishment?
