Hello, I just called the american embassy to ask what I need to get a Visa (don't know exactly which one, H1B I think), and they told me the only way I could get a Visa is by actually having a employer filling some forms which is a sort of promise that he will hire me without even having met me, this is ridiculous, isnt't it? Further more I read that the visa duration depends directly on your works, meaning that if you get fired, usa kicks you out, quite convenient if it is true. My question is is this true? Is this the only way to work in the USA for foreigners? If it is it's ironic because it's like saying yeah, we accept legal immigration but in the real world it is almost impossible, who will hire a person without even meet? You have to be insane... Anyway, I wondered if any of you knew a way I could go to the USA legally and seek for a job once there. Maybe because I work in the IT field it could be easier than if I was a sausage dealer. Thanks in advance.

H1B visa is like that. It's generally applied for you by the company that hires you. And you do meet them before... You go in for interview and all, and if they extend you and offer after it and you accept it, they'll apply the visa for you. From what I remember, you can switch jobs after you're in, but you must get another job that's similar to the one the H1B was originally issued for within a certain time frame to keep the H1B visa. There are other visa's that you can apply for.

The U.S. is a free and open society. We welcome citizens from around the world who genuinely want to visit, study, and do business here. It's like a joke... so I have to pay to fly to the US, hoping to get a job, return to my country while they issue the visa (I suppose the don't do it in the same day, and I can't wait without doing anything) and then I will be asking myself, when will I have to leave depending on which jobs I get or not and on my employer. It's like they do it on purpose so almost no one can go there. Or should I be an illegal immigrant as they all hate... This is frustrating, Thanks!

I'm not sure why you are so bitter? I was pre-interviewed by MS in Canada and they flew me down for a second interview in Seattle. Apply for jobs in the US from your own country, if they like what they see in your resume/CV, they'll phone interview you or have their local office interview you. If you pass that, then they'll send you to their office for further interview. They pay for it.

Are you under the impression that any part of the above gives you the right to demand a visa? Entrance into the U.S. is a privilege and we are not required to extend it to everyone who decides they'd like to work here.

Sure thing - and then you can work in a meat packing plant or as a night janitor at Walmart.

too bad, sorry :/ So you say that it is not as difficult to be hired coming from other countries as I feel it is? The process is simple then I seek for jobs, send my cv, they call, email whatever me, and I they like it as any other job theyll possibly schedule an onsite interview? Well, if it is as 'simple' it could be plausible. What bothers me is the fact that usa is the world's leading country, this involves dealing with the consequences, this is one, they talk a lot about acceptance, and racism, etc. And this is really making me feel as I'm not really wanted. And the fact that my employer has part of my balls in his hands is annoying too. I understand why an undecudated, violent and mentally disturbed person is not really wanted there, but I am not like that, and they make me feel like shit. And an other thing is that I can't leave when they tell me, I have some dates as any person would have, it will be hard to find a company that accepts me and when I can. What I wanted is doing what I could do in almost all countries, go there, and get a job, end of story, no more complications. I am sure there is a valid reason on the other side, but hey, I'm on my side. I will try to contact some companies and see what happens. Thanks for the info!

No, I don't pretend to demand a visa without any effort on my part, I'm willing to give all the needed documentation, tests of any kind, so the persons that could be worried about me going to work in the US can analyze me and my professionalism. Where I find it really exagerated is asking me to already have a job, when I seek for jobs half of them or more ask Citizenship..... Don't need to go to the extremes, I repeat so it is clear, I don't pretend to come, kick some doors and start working.

It's the same in virtually every country. Well, it depends a little on the agreements made between the two countries (your and the target country). Sweden and Norway have mutual agreements regarding immigration, so there's hardly any problems migrating between the two. My recent migration to Norway was virtually painless!

You may be right on this one, but we know that this is not exactly true. A lot of countries make it a lot more easy, starting with offering a lot more jobs to non residents than in the us. But I may be saying something stupid. I was thinking in how could I do it, I would have to be 100% sure I get the job before starting to look for appartments, a car, etc etc etc. I may be exagerating, don't know. The first time I left my country I didn't had to do all that, of course I've been illegal for some time but they helped me to incorporate instead of blocking me, this is why I say this is not entirely true that it is the same.

You know, I'm not saying this is direct racism, but it make me feel really unwanted. I moved to some countries and never felt like now. I don't think that this level of control is good for us (the ones who want to work in the usa). Once I'll get there, I will not thinking, hey thanks for the oportunity, I would rathe think, hey, thanks for making my life harder. But I can understand your (americans) frustration. Btw, I don't think racism is rare in the us, it is a fact and it is due, in part, to the massive illegal immigration. Put yourself in my pants and try to feel it as I do. Ask yourself how hard it is to go living in an other continent alone, and not even feeling wanted there, what feeling could it create once you finnaly get on destination?

Cada uno evalua cuales considera sean sus mejores opciones. Me parece muy bien que a ti no te interese, la cosa es que a mi si lamentablemente.

Bueno, pero no cierres tus ojos para otras posibilidades se la primera no es possible. Buena sorte! ;)

Of all forms of sexual aberration, the most unnatural is abstinence.

No, claro que no. Es frustrante nada mas, veremos que pasa. Gracias por el comentario.

You know, there actually are some Americans that can read Spanish. Thanks for your continued Anti-Americanism. You should wish your economy was in as good shape as ours, and racism is relatively rare compared to numerous other places. Thanks again.

You know, I've taken lightheartedly many insults against my country by some Americans (oakman, despeir, etc). All of them much worse than what I say. But, as in the Armenian/Russian/Jewish/Arab proverb: "the dogs bark but the caravan goes on". There is no country without faults or skeletons in the closet. And no country is defined just by these faults.
