The really cool thing is that the physicists aren't sure if the LHC will provide answers about the creation of the universe, or rip a hole in it. I love those 50/50 issues.

In addition to the Higgs boson, other theorized novel particles that might be produced, and for which searches[5] are planned, include strangelets If you just surf the web for a few minutes you will find plenty of Strangelets. ;P

CERN falls short of the peak energy levels produced by cosmic rays impacting the earth on a daily basis. Any apocalyptic stories are pure garbage as a result.
Otherwise [Microsoft is] toast in the long term no matter how much money they've got. They would be already if the Linux community didn't have it's head so firmly up it's own command line buffer that it looks like taking 15 years to find the desktop. -- Matthew Faithfull

Actually, getting whacked by a proton with an energy equivalent to the rest mass of a baseball (remember 1kg = 20megatons) would do catastrophic things to you just from the tiny fraction your body absorbed. That's not the same as being able to blow up the earth or the universe however.
