Hello all, I'm back from England... I'm back from the experience of the full English breakfasts and driving in the other side of everything (and safe!). Those days I've been working hard to get a customer happy. And thanks to you guys I've been able to solve several things related. Thank you to all of you! :rose:

I don't believe I helped you but hey in my company it's standard practice to take credit for other peoples work. How am I doing? I should be CEO in no time eh?

Do we really want to get into a discussion about proper English? Even the language that Beowulf was written in was mongrelized English, much less what we speak now. I'm not sure that I would really desire to speak proper English. I already get mocked enough for my irregular use of correct syntax.

They are called pavements over here. A footpath is without an accompanying road.

Streets are streets. A carriageway is a road surface, typically used only when talking about express routes such as A-roads, primary routes, trunk routes and motorways. You have single carriageways (a road surface that carries traffic in both directions) and a dual carriageway (two road surfaces with each carrying traffic in one direction only with a central divider between them)

we just have roads... there are wide roads... and narrow roads... on a wide road, you pass on the left unless someone else is passing at the moment, then all bets are off, pass or don't pass in any way you prefer.... and when there are single lane roads, the person with the largest vehicle wins. Pretty simple. adendum: ties go to the guy with the biggest rifle in the back window... conceiled carry must be unvieled obviously to the other driver before you can collect on your win of the road....

er, um, i was just going off the top of my head of some things i had remembered from my own trip there many years ago (eight to be exact). i thought that stuff they served with 'proper' english breakfasts was called 'blood pudding' (like that polish food that i can't seem to remember the name of right now) and 'black pudding' was a monster from dungeons and dragons, along with geletaneous cubes and such, my memory is not so good. i remember 'lorry' and 'carriageway' because i was on a carriageway when a lorry crossed the center and there was a terrible accident and the 'road' was shut down for eight hours. from wikipedia: Black pudding or less often blood pudding is a sausage made by cooking blood with a filler until it is thick enough to congeal when cooled oooh, that reminds me of 'chips and beans' or 'beans and chips' that they were so fond of over there. ah, memories.

I have never heard anyone calling it "blood pudding" before.

I can't say I've tried that particular combination. I like chips and I like beans, but they are an accompanyment to other things, not to each other.

Which side of the road is better for an accident free drive, scientifically?? However, I thought it is in America that we have everything opposite.. I know it is hard for a native American to understand this, Actually in America, you see all are at their oposite end, starting from electric items, vehicles, measurements, even the side you open a door ... They call it “American Standard”, Metric vs American Standard. Someone told me that, by the time US separate from England, they hated England such that they don’t want to have their standard (I think that is Metric) apply here in US. Do you have any idea WHY?? :)

this is easy... but it is best illustrated by a story.... “Put five apes in a cage. In the middle of a cage is a set of steps, and at the top of the steps is a banana hanging from the top of the cage. When the first ape starts up the steps, blast all five apes with ice cold water from a firehose for five minutes. When the next ape starts up the steps, do it again. Then put the firehose away. “The third time an ape starts up the steps, wait. The other apes will beat the shit out of the ape. Now take one of the apes out, put in a new ape. He’ll start up the steps – and the other apes will promptly beat the shit out of him. Replace another ape – and the other four – including the ape who never got hit with the water – will beat him to a pulp. Repeat the process, one by one, until you have five ‘new’ apes in the cage. “They’ll never let one of the apes up the steps. And if you were to ask why, the answer would be simple: “Because that’s the way it’s always been done.” ;P The US measurement system is used because that is what they have been taught. They tried to teach both, but this resulted in confusion. They still do, but eventually they forget the metric because it is never used. My first project out here I was hit with the requirement that my software adhere to the national standard for 2000, which was supposed to be metric. My software had to be compliant, so it was. the first request was put the measurements in US standards. So internally all my software is metric, externally to the user, it is US standards, or metric with a configuration switch. I am the only one who uses metric.
