Bug Tracker Project Manager All in One Wonder Package no coding required

we are a team of two, possibly three depending on the day and coffee levels. here's the scoop! one guy keeps track of his lists and priorities etc in excel spreadsheet. the other, uses an IT system for her stuff but is just too robust and cumbersome. personally, im using my notebook from Mix to keep track of my projects this spring, and this new technology known as a "pen" is there an easy to use web app, that allows us to keep a project list...however, is not so robust and huge and meant for more then three people that it's not more work to use it? any thots? :^)

In any bug tracking system you want to ensure you have backups, redundancy, and a migration path for future technology. 1. Which version of the notebook are you using? Have you ensured it's compatible with other notebooks or notepads and how have you found tech support? 2. Have you backed up the notebook? Try either simple replication with a compatible notebook and pen or, if you have the cash, an automated industrial backup solution such as a photocopier. 3. I've read that Pen failure rates are quite worrying. Do you have spare pens, have you checked their compatibility with current notebooks and any notebooks you may be considering upgrading too? 4. When buying pens make sure you understand the difference between Pens and Pencils. A Pencil is similar a Pen but allows rewriting on the media. Read/Write speed is similar but a Pen will ensure minimal data loss 5. When using new pens make sure you have some sort of staging setup to ensure that everything goes smoothly. A common mistake is to start with, say, a blue pen and then, on migrating to a new pen, find you may using green or purple. This can be a nightmare on a production system so just be warned.

Recommendation: stick to using pen and paper. b) you have performed very restrictive searches with unusual Recommendation: stick to using pen and paper. c) You are too lazy to open a new tab and click search, so make up some numbers that suggest you did actually try to search. You should look at BugTracker.Net http://ifdefined.com/bugtrackernet.html[^] It's web based, ASP.Net(C#) and FREE. I've recently installed it and it does the job.

you might want to take a look at http://www.basecamphq.com/[^] It's not specifically for development but covers todo items and proj mgmt. And there is a free version with some limitation.

To all the folks who told the guy he should start with Google: Are you all saying that the search results from Google are so precisely targeted by the algorithms that there's no need reason to ask actual living breathing human beings? I know from tracking my own BugTracker.NET's page rank (I'm the author) that little differences in the search criteria produce wildly different results. "bug tracker" gets you "BugTracker.NET" as the first on the list, but "bug tracking" gets a different list, with "BugTracker.NET" in around 85th place. So, to the original poster, if you are going to host it yourself, and if you want free, and you just want a tracker, then start with BugTracker.NET. If you want more than a tracker, if you want other project management tools, and you are willing to pay a reasonable price, consider FogBugz. If you want free and you can run apache, consider Trac. If you want maybe Subversion hosting too, take a look at CVSDude/Trac or Unfuddle. I've put together links to discussions like these on bug tracking[^]

Google can also search these discussions. In the Google search box type
bug track site:codeproject.comor variations of this. 5 minutes or so of this could have landed some links to previous discussions right here in this forum. I will, however concede that you have a valid point. Also another point it that initiating a fresh discussions will return more up-to-date opinions options. Personally, I'm a big fan of Mantis. BugTracker.NET looks good - the only reason I didn't go with it is that my host is PHP & MySQL. If that ever changes then ... I'll be back. By the way, I think your site lends you a lot of cred - it's good to see an honest comparisons and links , a developer who doesn't try to pretend their product is the only option. I also agree with Google page rankings - my page (www.CADbloke.com[^]) comes top of the list and my product contains exactly zero lines of code. No bugs! I wonder where my old lava lamp went?
