Hmm, quite wierd for both of you to recommend RedHat. Last time I tried RH (6.2) I ended up re-installing windows98 (yeah my experience with RH was that bad). So I thought I'd try a new distro. I've got an old P 200 lying around. And when God, who created the entire universe with all of its glories, decides to deliver a message to humanity, He WILL NOT use, as His messenger, a person on cable TV with a bad hairstyle.

Well, this REDHat version was the first that I installed , apart from 7.0. It's stable , I have it installed on my Toshiba laptop with a general VESA driver with a resolution of 1024*768*16 bits, with the GRUB bootloader installed, on a fat32 system with windows 2000 :-) So no problems at all. I installed Windows 2000 first on a fat32 , then installed redhat using startup floppy disk, I choose to install the preferred boot loader GRUB, then it all went smothly :-) After this, I installed the new GCC version 3.1 without problems too. :-) Cheers, Joao Vaz The loved ones never really leave us , they are always alive on our hearts and minds.

I'm thinking of trying out this distro. Has anyone here worked with it yet? If so, what did u think? And when God, who created the entire universe with all of its glories, decides to deliver a message to humanity, He WILL NOT use, as His messenger, a person on cable TV with a bad hairstyle.

Well, this REDHat version was the first that I installed , apart from 7.0. My fav is Mandrake. It's based on Redhat but it's got a lot of nice bells & whistles. HTH bibamus, edamus, cras moriemur

Last time I tried to install Mandrake 8.1 (preceded by aborted 7.0 and 8.0 installs), it refused to allow me to connect to the net as long as I was forwarding ports (from my Linksys router) to that machine. More software ships with it, and its utils are better. I haven't used it since 6.2, but as far as Linux is concerned, it was always my favorite distro. Well, it's not that easy, but check this out: DUAL BOOTING XP(NTFS) and REDHAT 7.2 It's XP e Redhat 7.2 , but it's the same :-) Another method if you have BootMagic from PowerQuest it's to install lilo or GRUB in a empty linux partition(filesystem ext2),and after the instalation of linux, go to BootMagic on Windows and add linux partition on the menu that specify the boot options :-) BootMagic will call Lilo or GRUB and one of these bootloaders will load linux ...
