There are certain buzzwords that are starting to appear in mainstream use, that really annoy me! The biggest culprit is 'Mashup' What was once quite happy to be a compilation, a medley, or a collage, is now a mashup. And to make matters worse, the majority of these 'mashups' are created by some clown taking something interesting, an stripping out the bit he / she thinks are interesting, and publishing the result, usually to some poorly chosen, ear bleeding music, for unimaginitive people with short attention spans. What's next, the olympic 400m individual mashup? :sigh:

The SCM system we use at work now has a companion 'Business Mashup' edition. Nope, I have no idea what that's meant to mean either.

"Marketecture" - the use of popular and fashionable technical terms and buzzwords to assist with the marketing and selling of a product. And yes, I have heard someone talk seriously about Marketecture without cracking a smile. They were quite put out when I laughed.

"Web 2.0" - especially when used by clueless executives or marketing people trying to sound un-technologically-challenged.

SOA has got to be the most frustrating thing to hear now. Especially when the people claiming to follow it have done nothing beyond using web services to transport data. Web services do not make you SOA! Some other ones that are purely legitimate (like SOA) until you get tired of hearing them either out of context or repeated by people with no concept of what they're saying: best practices unit test code review Great terms and great concepts when applied properly, blood boilers when they're not.

The one my boss uses that drives me up one side of the cube and down the other (and that includes through the open air above :) ): "Dialed in." Usage: "So, once you get that report dialed in, let me know so I can give you ten tons of other crap to do."

“Acer, Gateway, and eMachines are the same company now. Great! Now we just need a really big toilet, and we can get rid of all three at once.”

It's the corporate buzzspeak by the 'suits' that irritates! (add yours to the list) 1. 'At the end of the day...' 2. 'New paradigm' 3. '..outside the box' 4. '..and walk him through it' 5. '..touch base' 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.

What does an agnostic, dyslexic, insomniac do? He lies awake at night wondering if there's a dog.

"Let's go ahead and..." I often want to keep a tally of how many times "go ahead" are said during tutorial videos. It's so annoying when you are aware of it. So there, I've ruined it for all of you now!

"Marketecture" - the use of popular and fashionable technical terms and buzzwords to assist with the marketing and selling of a product. And yes, I have heard someone talk seriously about Marketecture without cracking a smile. They were quite put out when I laughed.

Hey wait, isn't "marketecture" a mashup itself? ;)
